TITLE Sr. Process Development Engineer COMPANY JTEKT North America DEPARTMENT Production Engineering LOCATION Greenville SC CLASSIFICATION Salaried Exempt REPORTS TO Supervisor - Metal Forming GRADE Technical grade 6 (Commensurate to exp) Summary/Purpose Metal forming (stamping/drawing/heading) is a core technology within JTEKT. This position frequently works in a project manager role on high priority and highly visible metal forming development projects that directly impact plant productivity and product quality. Many of the projects are leading edge technology projects where a new process must be created (or an existing one substantially improved) to create a competitive advantage. A high percentage of the work involves process development to obtain higher production rates and part quality improvement or to enable new product development. Essential Duties and Accountabilities: Investigate and recommend new metal forming processes and disseminate the information throughout the company Investigate best practice for existing metal forming processes and facilitate global implementation of best practices Serve as project manager or primary player on major metal forming related projects Conduct process capability studies, calculate statistical information, and interpret results Develop training programs and oversee the training of plant personnel in the operation of new metal forming systems Solve difficult and complex metal forming related problems Understand and follow the JTEKT Quality gate systems (including development of pFMEA, process drawings, process capability confirmation, etc.) Travel to JTEKT manufacturing plants and suppliers to solve critical problems Supervisory Responsibilities: • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Job often deals with developing brand new processes. This requires good problem solving skills and the ability to search out existing technology that will apply or that can be modified to meet requirements. • Candidate must have good mechanical aptitude, understanding of forming equipment and technology, and good theoretical knowledge of metal forming processes to include stamping, drawing, and heading. • Candidate must also be comfortable in a mfg. environment and be able to work effectively with people of various backgrounds and roles. • Experience in equipment standards, purchase, install, and runoff. • Knowledge in other forming or complementary processes such as rack die rolling, multi-slide forming, flow forming, laser cutting/welding, part cleaning, and coating are preferred. • Experience with 3D CAD system (PTC Creo/SolidWorks). Education and Experience: • Mechanical Engineering Degree (BSME or MSME) with 5 year’s diverse metal forming (stamping/drawing/heading) experience.
