TITLE Quality Supervisor COMPANY Koyo Bearings North America DEPARTMENT Quality LOCATION Sylvania, Georgia CLASSIFICATION Salaried Exempt REPORTS TO Quality Manager GRADE 5 or 6 Depending on exp. Summary/Purpose The Quality Engineer supports the Quality department and manufacturing product lines addressing customer quality issues, internal quality issues, and customer warranty claim analysis. This position assists with the planning, supporting, and coordination of quality assurance and quality control programs. Leads Quality improvement initiatives. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager. Essential Duties and Accountabilities (General): • Leads the investigation of customer issues regarding quality and insures appropriate action and customer satisfaction • Completes detailed customer issue reports, such as 8D, QPR and other Problem Solving tools within required timeframes • Builds direct customer rapport through superior responsiveness and support • Presents investigation reports to senior leadership for customer complaints as directed by the Quality Manager • Communicates customer quality requirements to affected plant manufacturing departments • Continually strives to increase “quality awareness” in all associates through quality events and personal action • Provides analysis of the organization’s overall performance against goals set for assigned KPI’s • Assures completion of appropriate quality planning and implementation of established control plan requirements • Audits and updates Control Plans and PFMEAs as directed by the Quality Manager • Construct, audit, and update quality procedures as needed • Provides data analysis and risk assessment pertaining to quality, customer audits, and new product launches • Assists in planning, promoting, and organizing training activities related to product quality and reliability • Performs internal Quality Management System audits as required (requires Internal Auditor certification) • Understands various aspects of the selection of process line gauging, training of setters, operators, and inspectors on proper gauging techniques, and provides advanced improvements to inspection techniques where needed • Conducts product return analysis, creates root cause investigation, and reports the findings • Ensures corrective and preventative actions are carried out to eliminate any nonconformance in the system • Works directly with assigned departments to reduce or eliminate scrap • Represents the Quality Department during customer and supplier meetings, telephone, and email conversations • Supports all health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring associates are working safely, and following all safety rules and procedures Essential Duties and Accountabilities (Sylvania Products): • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of Sylvania products • Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material • Interfaces with customers using verbal, written, and graphical communication tools in response to customer claims and concerns. Ability to effectively communicate is critical to this position • Develop a full understanding of all customer-specific Quality requirements as per the customer’s Supplier Quality Manual • Directly supports plant visits by customers or other visitors as directed by the Quality Manager • Travel to customers as needed to investigate, resolve, and report on complaints and/or warranty issues • Work with logistics and engineering to ensure customer-specific packaging requirements are met • Understand quality requirements of part drawings and non-print quality requirements and standards • Ensures applicable technical inspections are applied to Sylvania products • Understands traceability of all processed orders Supervisory Responsibilities • This position has supervisory responsibilities that include Gage Lab (metrology) and SPC. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • 5 years of quality and/or related experience in a manufacturing environment • Understanding of ISO9001 and IATF16949 or other Quality System requirements • Certified Internal Auditor and ability to perform internal audits to IATF16949 requirements or will be expected to become certified as an Internal Auditor within 1 year of assuming role • Understanding or the ability to learn and utilize JPS initiatives of QA Network, QBR, FMDS, and QC Circles • Understanding of Metrology for gage systems. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on professional conduct • Ability to work with all levels of the organization, both internal and external • Ability to work professionally and effectively with customers and suppliers • Advanced computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Minitab, etc.), able to learn and use corporate systems, for example: SharePoint, Oracle, GQTS, Interlink, and GASL • Strong statistical and analytical mathematical skills required • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision, strong time management skills • Ability to travel, as required, to customers and suppliers, at times with minimal notice Education and Experience: • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical field • Five years of experience in bearing products or similar metals manufacturing experience with emphasis on product quality preferred • Direct contact customer and supplier relations experience preferred Compliance and Ethics: • Ensure JTEKT compliance and ethics standards are maintained in all areas of responsibility. • Safeguard Compliance by following all laws, rules, and regulations. • Make Ethical choices when planning specific courses of action. Work Environment/Physical Demands: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • 60% work is performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment. • 40% work is performed in manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Exposures of heat, cold, chemicals, sharp edges, and loud noises are common throughout the plant. • Travel by automobile and aircraft may be required to attend meetings or training.
