Maintenance Technician – Food Processing Facility

Essential Function Job Description

I. Position Title: Maintenance Supervisor – Food Processing Facility

II. Employment Classification: Exempt (Salary)

III. Department: Maintenance

IV. Responsible to: Plant Manager

V. Fundamental Objective: Responsible for the company’s maintenance program. Ensures proper working condition of a variety of equipment within the production department, including but not limited to, pre-processing, processing, packaging and shipping with a focus on safety.
Supervises maintenance personnel, 3rd party contractors, establishes priorities in schedules in both preventive and reactive maintenance, shapes critical parts inventories, builds maintenance SOPs, and interacts with regulatory bodies including APCD, OSHA, and
Bakersfield City.

VI. Level of Supervision Required: Minimal

VII. Level of Supervision Expected with Direct Reports: Moderate - Heavy

VIII. Supervisory Responsibilities – Direct reports include 1-2 maintenance technicians per shift, with three total shifts of planned staffing.

IX. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Ensure proper working order of production equipment by planning and overseeing the execution of scheduled, unscheduled, preventive and reactive maintenance.

B. Coach and develop maintenance team members.
C. Analyze chronic and recurring mechanical and operational problems to lead long term resolution implementation.
D. Perform necessary area inspections and planned work follow up inspection to maintain maximum production and quality of maintenance efforts.
E. Ensure proper working order and make necessary repairs of drives, gearboxes, motors, shakers and other similar equipment.
F. Assures machinery, equipment and facilities are properly maintained for efficient and safe production.
G. Leads company efforts in creating, maintaining, and exemplifying a safety mindset and safe work practices.

H. Oversee the inventory storeroom by assisting in defining the on-hand parts inventory for maintenance consumables and equipment spare parts.

I. Responsible for creation and maintenance of a plant equipment identification system.
J. Lead company representative assigned to managing and executing third party planned and/or reactive work.
K. Tasked with ensuring necessary equipment monitoring and reporting as pertaining to regulatory requirements if performed and reported in a timely manner.
L. Tasked with logging movement of items out of the parts inventory, and notifying Purchasing of restock orders, required to keep all items at safety stock levels. Keep accurate records as required.

J. Work closely with the Quality Control and Production Departments.
K. Scheduling employees, handling time approvals, vacation request, performance reviews, disciplinary conversations, etc..

X. Minimum Qualifications:

A. High school diploma or equivalent.
B. Five years of related industry experience including strong, diverse mechanical background.
C. Working knowledge of – MS Office Suite
D. Background in boiler and/or thermal fluid system operations and maintenance.
E. Familiarity with PLC systems, plant control systems, variable frequency drives.
F. Mechanically inclined, with the ability to understand and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
G. General knowledge and understand of air handling systems, plumbing, and electrical.
H. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a forklift certification.
I. Must have a strong understanding of stainless steel fabrication, including TIG welding, with a focus on sanitary and structural welds.

XI. Essential Position Requirements:

B. Possess analytical skills to identify problems, review courses of action and make decisions.
C. Possess strategic problem-solving skills to develop feasible solutions to problems, recommend actions and refer problems to upper management when necessary. (F)

E. Be able to effectively read and understand written information, including memos, reports, bulletins, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

G. Ability to operate industrial equipment such as a forklift. (F)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
