Job Description

Overview

OMNI is honored to be retained by Jewish Family Services (JFS) in their search for a collaborative, proactive Controller to conduct daily accounting activities including planning and budgeting, monthly close process, financial reporting, and grant and programmatic reporting.

 

Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas (JFS) has supported and strengthened lives throughout Greater Kansas City for over 120 years. We are nimble and innovative, anticipating and responding to our region's needs, providing essential human services for people facing challenges in everyday life or times of crisis - regardless of faith, age, culture, or lifestyle. JFS proudly served over 10,000 people last year in programs ranging from our KesherKC food pantry to mental health programs, older adult services, and chaplaincy. JFS was founded on the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, one person, one family at a time.

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the JFSKC Leadership Team, oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team and Grant Director to provide ad hoc financial reports and budgets to assist in grant application and reporting, gratitude initiatives and year-end reporting.
  • Manage organization cash flow and forecasting to support operational requirements.
  • Support the CFO in coordinating the annual audits by preparation of audit schedules and provision of requested audit evidence, and finalization of financial statements.
  • Ensure program management and Board of Directors are supported with accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Remain current on GAAP accounting, reporting and control best practices, HIPAA, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit financial operations.
  • Prepare and submit invoices to third-party payers.
  • Manage a comprehensive grant management system including analysis, post-award services, and oversight to ensure compliance with grant and contract-specific requirements.
  • Handle collection process including the monthly and quarterly invoicing process.
  • Identify and resolve client billing problems with outsourced billing professionals.
  • Assure coding is compliant and up to date.
  • Review accounts and make recommendations to the CFO regarding non-collectible accounts.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA certification preferred.
  • 5 experience in an agency/company of similar complexity.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Additional experience with accounting software, preferably Sage products.
  • Able to comply with JFS mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, in compliance with Federal ADA guidelines.
