Jewish Family & Children's Service is Hiring an Assistant Controller Near Phoenix, AZ

Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Program Accounting Manager will perform relatively complex accounting duties for JFCS and related companies using their knowledge and experience of accrual accounting, fund accounting and allocations of shared costs across multiple companies, revenue streams and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will assist with analysis, preparation, and reporting of company financial data, which includes evaluating budgets, monitoring accounts payable and accounts receivable, and tracking information pertaining to company assets and income.

Critical Tasks

  • Supervise staff accountant and cash management personnel.
  • Prepares financial statements to summarize and forecast the company’s financial status
  • Manages balance sheet and bank reconciliation.
  • Assists with management of accounting, auditing and budgeting within the organization.
  • Assists with preparations for audits.
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Uses accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Manage Accounting Department’s month/year end close schedule.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports for operational review and decision-making.
  • Provide accounting assistance to business managers as needed throughout the company.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial information in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset setup and depreciation schedule.
  • Works with the company financial team to create internal controls and policies.
  • Identifies solutions to discrepancies in financial records.
  • Mentor/backup to other Finance department team members.

  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Computer Skills—the individual demonstrates intermediate/advanced knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Excel and intermediate experience with accounting software packages like Abila MIP Fund Accounting (preferred), Sage, Peachtree or other similar product.

Metrics

  • Manage the month-end close and other quarterly and annual requirements within the timeframe stated in the Finance task list.
  • Oversee the Cash and Receivable Specialist to ensure responsibilities are completed timely as outlined in the Finance task list.
  • Oversee the Accountant to ensure responsibilities are completed timely as outlined in the Finance task list.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance (ACA, ACCA, and CPA) or 5 years proven Assistant Controller role strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of major accounting systems.
  • Strong understanding of financial and operational controls.
  • Knowledge and experience with not-for-profit software such Navision and Razor’s Edge.
  • Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with financial reporting and general ledger structure required.
  • Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of automobile insurance and Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to JFCS’s insurance company.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including prolonged sitting and in certain positions driving, lifting 20lbs, walking, standing and executing dexterity with a keyboard or smart pad.
