Jerritt Canyon is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Training Near Elko, NV

The Opportunity

The Engineer in Training (EIT) position is an entry level position for a career in mineral processing, metallurgical engineering, and mechanical engineering. The main objective of the position is professional and personal development of future technical experts and functional leaders. The candidate will participate in a 30-month rotational program through different areas of the processing plant and mine. EITs will work and train alongside operational, metallurgical, and maintenance groups to gain fundamental knowledge of the mineral processing operation. The program will provide excellent opportunities to gain real-world experience and hone communication, leadership, and technical skills. Upon completion of the program, EITs will be eligible for a completion bonus and promotion to Engineer II position.

Jerritt Canyon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Training who will be responsible for providing engineering expertise and advice to support the maintenance and management of the Fixed Plant equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and implementation of equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability
  • Investigate and test ideas to improve existing systems or to overcome mechanical problems
  • Maintain, optimize, and repair mechanical equipment
  • Assist in establishing, monitoring, and improving preventative maintenance systems
  • Perform engineering calculations to specify and size mechanical equipment including crushers, conveyors, pumps, blowers, compressors, control valves, regulators, relief valves, and other associated process equipment
  • Prepare drawings including PFDs, PIDs, General Arrangements, Mechanical & Piping Details, Piping plans, sections and details, and pipeline alignment sheets for process engineering design
  • Execution of all aspects of small and medium sized projects, including planning, justification, design, approval, construction, and commissioning
  • Assist in providing design input to engineering consultants
  • Assist in coordinating efforts during planning, design, construction, and commissioning of projects
  • Assist in completing in-house design for improvement projects of the appropriate size and complexity
  • Assist in selection and procurement of equipment, supplies, and contracts

Education and Experience

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Structural, Reliability, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering degree or experience is preferred
  • Knowledge in mineral processing operations and construction is preferred
  • Competence in MS Office is preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is required
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job is required
