Inspector / Packer 2nd Shift 2:30 - 11:00
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, stacks filled candy cartons and moves loaded skids from packing area to staging area for shipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem from time to time.
Food safety or quality responsibilities within job. All staff are responsible for reporting food safety and quality issues to those that can initiate action.
Visually inspects candy as it passes by on the conveyor belt, checking shape, color, size, texture and print characteristics.
Manually removes and discards pieces that do not conform to established characteristics and standards.
Prepares each carton for filling by using established guidelines for unfolding, stamping, inserts and processing.
Frequently checks scales to ensure that accurate weight counts are being observed.
Uses established guidelines to process and package candy at each of the machine centers in the packaging department.
Lifts boxed candy and places it on the conveyor for taping, sealing and printing.
Correctly mixes candy, using established formulas, for processing in bagging and boxing functions.
Check code dates in candy in process to make sure the dates are correct and being printed in the correct part of the bag.
Repacks, reboxes or rebags candy as necessary.
Applies customer supplied labels to boxes, bags and tins as needed.
Assists other packaging personnel as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for the quality of their work and implementation of the food safety/quality procedures applicable to the processes that they perform.
Complete daily end of shift cleaning.
Report all safety incidents.
Responsible to report any food safety/quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action – SQF Practitioner or direct supervisor.

No supervisory responsibilities exist in this position.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move 30 to 50 pounds unassisted.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
