J&J WORLDWIDE SERVICES is Hiring a Fire Alarm Technician Near Annapolis, MD

General Summary

Performs a variety of tasks relating to the installation, testing, upkeep and maintenance Fire Alarm Systems. Supports department in resolving after hours emergencies. May be required to work flexible hours or shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains fire alarm, detection, notification, and reporting systems
  • Diagnoses, repairs, and performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance on existing fire alarm, detection, notification, and reporting systems
  • Performs periodic maintenance on fire alarm systems equipment in accordance with the PM Program, NFPA and manufacturer's guidelines
  • Ensures proper installation and/or function of electronic aspects of fire alarm systems on maintenance and construction projects
  • Ensures compliance with the applicable IBC, IFC and NFPA codes, UFC Code and satisfaction of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
  • Coordinates testing, maintenance, and repair activities with applicable parties which may include US Naval Academy Fire Department, Station Management, Facilities Management, and building occupants
  • Timely responds to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours
  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved
  • Advises immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements
  • Accomplishes tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams
  • Uses solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems
  • Proactively identifies any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicates them effectively
  • Works directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking
  • Learns and uses computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications
  • Occasionally utilizes the assistance of other station personnel to complete tasking, or assist other trades or departments with their tasking
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Current NICET II Fire Alarm certification (minimum)
  • Minimum three years of documented experience servicing, testing, inspecting, and maintaining fire alarm systems.
  • Experience with and ability to diagnose fire alarm system issues and to maintain, adjust repair, and replace a variety of fire alarms and related components
  • Working knowledge of current building, fire and life safety codes as related to fire alarms
  • Experience in construction and/or maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities
  • Experienced in reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manual and manufacturer’s troubleshooting guides to accomplish tasking
  • Hands on experience analyzing situations and making technical and safety decisions based on specifications and applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines
  • Possess prior computer experience and be able and willing to learn and effectively utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Possess the competencies, willingness and ability to perform the duties of position

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
