JOB DESCRIPTION

• Independently applies knowledge of analysis, synthesis, and design of industrial processes.
• Conduct business and interactions with a positive attitude that projects a high level of professionalism.
• Maintains a focus on process safety, machine safety, and operability throughout all phases of design
• Works under the direction of the Responsible Engineer(s), if applicable, sometimes for multiple projects simultaneously.
• Coordinates with multi-discipline team to optimize the mechanical designs within project constraints
• Participates interactively in the planning, scheduling, and development of project execution.
• Ability to lead process engineering effort for assigned projects, track budgets, and track schedules.
• Understand scope and assigned duties to execute within contracted scope and identify potential changes.
• Troubleshoots operating processes and equipment and develops sound engineering solutions
• Provide guidance to multi-discipline team to optimize the design of processes
• Ability to navigate through and interpret regulations, codes, and industry standards ensures that designs meet established requirements and good engineering practices.
• Works with clients and other design disciplines to establish project basis of design, develop options, make recommendations, and optimize selected design
• Develop process design criteria for all project stages (feasibility studies, basic engineering, conceptual design, and detailed design).
• Evaluate material compatibility for process services in piping or equipment
• Understand and implement client product reaction engineering
• Perform, develop, and/or interpret material and energy balances. Formulate process design strategy from material and energy balances.
• Develop, and create Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s).
• Develop equipment specifications for the selection and purchase of equipment.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors to determine appropriate design considerations, design approval, and equipment pricing.
• Oversee the work of designers to produce CAD drawings of the systems designed by the engineering team.
• Oversee and direct the work of designers to produce construction grade drawings for incorporation into work installation packages.
• Present designs to clients for approval and discuss needs for modification.
• Participates in PHA’s / HAZOP’s as a project team representative.
• Works primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to project sites through all project phases from concept through start-up

EDUCATION

• B.S. in Chemical Engineering is required
• M.S. in Chemical Engineering is preferred

EXPERIENCE

• 5 years of experience in design engineering or technology licensing organization
• Professional Engineering registration preferred, but not mandatory
