Human Resources Specialist 

The Island Institute in Rockland is seeking a full-time Human Resources Specialist to provide support in the areas of benefits, recruiting, onboarding, HRIS, recordkeeping and policy and program administration.

Headquartered in the beautiful coastal community of Rockland, Maine, the Island Institute was founded in 1983. Throughout its history, the organization has addressed a variety of needs in Maine’s island and coastal communities and focuses on helping them tackle the most pressing environmental and socioeconomic issues they face. Our culture is innovative, collaborative and intellectually challenging.

The ideal candidate has an undergraduate degree, at least three (3) years of experience in human resources, familiarity with federal and state employment laws, excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to detail, expertise with Microsoft applications, a strong aptitude for technology, high emotional intelligence, and excellent interpersonal skills.

We offer an excellent benefits package and a starting salary of $50,400/yr. This position is based out of our headquarters in Rockland; however, this role may accommodate a partially remote work schedule. Our standard work schedule is 40 hours per week; however, we encourage applicants who desire less than full-time hours to also apply.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • At least three (3) years’ experience working in Human Resources
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and from various backgrounds
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Expertise with Microsoft applications
  • Aptitude for learning new technology
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with state and federal employment laws
  • HR certification is preferred
