GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Full time position in a multi-disciplinary personal injury facility to support the development, implementation, and coordination of physical therapy care. Under oversight by the Physical Therapist, to assist in the treatment and prevention of health problems associated with the body's muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems. Requires a compassionate healer who is passionate about their patients and committed to helping them recover their independence and mobility. 

The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant has experience working with a wide range of patient injuries and age groups, who is always ready to learn new techniques to further patient care and would create a Plan of Treatment consisting of the appropriate exercises, procedures and techniques required to promote effective, safe recovery. They will be responsible for coordinating with any healthcare professionals that are working with their patients and referring patients to specialists when appropriate. They would be a patient, compassionate professional who encourages and inspires their patients to work toward greater independence and recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Carries out approved services for client as directed by the Physical Therapist’s plan of care.
  • Records delivery of approved services and submits documentation per established format and timelines.
  • Participates in client’s care conferences as requested by Physical Therapist.
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of equipment used in therapy sessions.
  • Communicates with Physical Therapist and other interdisciplinary team members regarding client’s progress, problems and plans.
  • Records daily service charges according to company procedures and timelines.
  • Instructs families and direct support professionals in staff instruction protocols as directed by Physical Therapist.
  • Complies with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Physical Therapy.
  • Perform ongoing physical therapy evaluations according to APTA standards of practice as well as state standards.
  • Follow the Plan of Treatment developed by the Physical Therapist for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short- and long-term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required patient and caregiver involvement.
  • Follow the integrative Plan of Treatment for patients on a consistent schedule 
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and company documentation procedures.
  • Evaluate mobility, strength and current level of patient function, while communicating goals to the Physical Therapist to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
  • Report patient progress to Physical Therapist, patient, patient caregivers and loved ones, company staff and healthcare professionals involved in ongoing treatment/care of patients.
  • Assist other company staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly and effective environment for rehabilitation and physical therapy.
  • Interviews, observes, examines patients, and assist with the interpretation of x-rays.
  • Maintains accurate case histories of patients.
  • Advises patients about recommended courses of treatment.
  • Obtains and keeps record of patients' medical histories.
  • Arranges for diagnostic x-rays to be taken.
  • Counsels patients about nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, and other matters.
  • Consults with and refer patients to appropriate health practitioners when necessary.
  • Works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans. The team includes nurses, chiropractors, massage therapists, radiology/MRI techs, and educators.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program culminating in an Associate’s degree.
  • Current and valid state PTA license or equivalent in the states where services are rendered.
  • CPR/BLS certification, preferred
  • Ability to work flexible day/evening hours and occasional weekends. 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
 Completion of a PT Assistant program from an accredited school of Physical Therapy approved by the American Physical Therapy Association
 Current/active Licensure in the state of practice 
 
PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (with AED) preferred.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
 None.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Provides leadership and guidance to other team members within the location, on both clinical and administrative areas of responsibility.
 
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
 Ability to read, analyze, and understand common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; Ability to respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
 Under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to supervisor.
