Position Title: Research Scientist II - Cropping Systems Nitrogen Lab Job Group: Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Agronomy or related field. Experience in field experiments and lab processing. Job Description: The Department of Agronomy seeks a Research Scientist II to be responsible for the operation of the Castellano laboratory and field research program in biogeochemical cycling and transport within the soil as it extends to the atmosphere and subsoil to maximize sustainable productivity of agricultural systems. The successful candidate will manage the design and execution of field and laboratory experiments including data organization, equipment maintenance, and compliance standards. The lab manager works with postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and P&S staff to coordinate lab and field activities Example of Duties Develops, designs and conducts one or more moderately complex research projects or experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results. Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. Assists with publications and writing or developing grants. Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data. Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis. May act as a co-author.
