Job Description

Job Overview:

The Health & Wellness Manager is responsible for administering, managing, and over-all growth of IRC New York’s Health & Wellness (H&W) program. They oversee the overall program quality, management and development, financial management, data management and reporting, compliance, and community outreach and representation. The program currently focuses on mental health and psychosocial support, comprehensive case management, and systems navigation for a variety of vulnerable populations including refugees, asylum seekers, victims of crime, LGBTQIA individuals, and those experiencing emotional distress. The work is carried out in close coordination with a multidisciplinary team of service providers within the IRC and the local community, and with technical assistance from technical advisors at IRC’s Headquarters.

Major Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Program Design, Development and Management

  • Support the H&W team in developing and delivering community-based programming for immigrant populations, by connecting to and activating traditional healing networks, using existing community support systems, building on client strengths and assets, and tapping into other community resources complemented by IRC resources and curriculum.
  • Assure delivery of high-quality services in accordance with goals and results outlined in funder agreements; Identify gaps in services and address through internal and external capacity building.
  • Responsible for identifying grant opportunities, drafting proposals to secure funding for H&W Programs, managing existing grants and working closely with donors that make the H&W team’s work possible.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of program reports to the IRC New York Deputy Director, IRC’s Headquarters, and relevant donors.
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary, including involving Child Protective Services, law enforcement, etc.
  • Coordinate referrals, service planning and enrollment in various relevant areas that include placement, safety, guardianship, medical, mental health, legal/immigration, education, substance abuse, independent living, parenting/supervision, independent living, mentorship, and peer support. Build and manage relationships with community services providers in relevant areas.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of trauma-informed principles and approaches, protection and safeguarding, and mandatory reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records in electronic case files and required databases and consistently ensure the confidentiality of information relevant to cases.

Supervision and Coaching

  • Provide mentorship, support and routine supervision H&W program staff, set clear performance expectations and goals, give regular feedback, address performance concerns, lead disciplinary actions, help prioritize workloads, help troubleshoot challenges, and maintain appropriate professional development plans.
  • Promote and develop a high functioning, collaborative team and ensure effective integration of internships and volunteers within programs; collaborate with other IRC program areas as appropriate to ensure client-centered service.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Program Quality

  • Guide H&W staff in conceptualizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating interventions and programs that are evidence-based, responsive to client needs and relevant to the IRC’s strategic commitments.
  • Be responsible for the selection and use of appropriate assessment tools.
  • Supervise and/or conduct regular internal case file reviews (paper and electronic) to ensure compliance with IRC policies as well as any donor requirements.
  • Collaborate with IRC HQ technical advisors on mental health and psychosocial support. Lead local efforts to design and implement safety and wellness interventions that are evidence-based and/or evidence-generating.
  • Supervise accurate and timely program data entry into donor and IRC required databases.

Community Partnerships and Capacity Building

  • Coordinate outreach activities with other IRC NY staff into local communities and partner organizations to promote awareness of available H&W programming for refugees, asylum seeking families, and other populations.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with local mental health, healthcare, social services, domestic violence, and other providers, offering technical guidance, mentoring and support that contributes to their capacity to provide appropriate, trauma-informed services to clients and increase clients’ access to the services offered by mainstream providers.
  • Identify and respond to needs for targeted training and professional development among the team.
  • Work with the Deputy Director to develop partnerships with local primary care health centers, specialist care, and behavioral health care to address client needs
  • Work with the Deputy Director to represent the IRC in community-led meetings, projects, etc. that advocate, promote, and provide health care services and health care access for community members.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team;
  • Adhere to relevant professional and ethical standards, including the IRC Way, and client confidentiality.
  • Align with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in social work preferred.

Work Experience:

  • At least five years of relevant work experience in Social Service, Mental Health, or international development fields leading complex programs targeting refugee, immigrant, displaced, underserved, and/or low-income populations.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a diverse setting, and with refugee and immigrant populations strongly preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Well-developed understanding of community integration, resettlement, psychosocial support, mental health, and forced migration-related trauma.
  • Multi-cultural experience and proven ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds and support others in coping with stressful situations.
  • Deep understanding of contemporary race and gender issues as they relate to refugee resettlement.
  • Consistent track record in client centered design, grant writing and development, grant management, grant reporting, fiscal management, and program development is required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; Proficiency in another language strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate partnerships in furtherance of program development goals.

Work Environment:  

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Ability and willingness to be on-call to support staff responding to crisis situations.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement
