International Center of Photography is Hiring a Financial Controller Near New York, NY

Schedule: Full-time

Reports to: Acting CFO 

FLSA: Exempt

The International Center of Photography (ICP) is the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Through our exhibitions, education, public programs, and community outreach, we offer an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image. Since our founding in 1974, we have presented more than 700 exhibitions and offered thousands of classes, providing instruction at every level. Our new integrated center on the Lower East Side reunites our school and museum in one space to become the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing.

Position Summary:

The Controller is responsible for managing the museum's financial procedures and systems, financial reporting, planning and analysis.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Produce monthly financial statements to be presented to staff. Monitor and report variances to department heads and Acting CFO. With department heads, correct budget variances.
  • Oversee reconciliation of General Ledger, including all asset and liability accounts, as well as income schedules.
  • Oversee bank reconciliation, A/P and A/R Aged reports, on a monthly basis.
  • Manage operating cash flow and maintain banking relationships, including weekly transfers of cash.
  • Review all expenditures for proper approvals and coding.
  • Manage annual independent audit. Review adjusting entries with Acting CFO.
  • Manage budget and forecasting systems; assist Acting CFO in development of proposed budget.
  • Train and supervise finance staff and oversee their activity in managing payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, disbursements, and reconciliations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage systems of internal control.
  • Prepare annual Pension, Federal and State tax returns.
  • Support Acting CFO in fiscal analysis and other financial tasks, as needed.
  • Manage board quarterly reporting.
  • Maintain investment reporting, including monthly income allocations.
  • Review all external financial reporting.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

  • Associate Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Experience Requirement:

  • Five years (5) in a not-for-profit organization, with fund accounting and supervisory experience.

Additional Competency Requirement (Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Accounting Degree;
  • Excellent reconciliation and problem solving skills; 
  • Ability to motivate and train staff; 
  • Highly proficient with PC-spreadsheet design and management; 
  • Ability to interact well with program, administrative, and managerial staff; and
  • Strong analytic capability.
