Virginia International Raceway is America's Motorsport Resort. Located between Danville and South Boston, Virginia, the track opened in 1957 and closed in 1974. Reopened in 2000, it is one of America's finest and most beautiful natural terrain road courses. VIR offers a wide variety of dining experiences from the Oak Tree Tavern, Pagoda Grill, Catering, Concessions and Special Events.

We are searching for Catering  Servers to join us for our 2024 race season. Do you like daily change in your work life? Do you like to make people happy? Do you like making money while attending really awesome events? We have the job for you. On property we have three different food and beverage outlets. Catering Servers at the track have the opportunity to work multiple shifts at multiple location. This position is entry level with the opportunity to advance.

Compensation | $15.00-$17.00 per hour depending on experience gratuities

Role: Serve patrons with food and beverages in a positive and friendly manner. Provide information to help food and beverage selections. Present ordered choices in a prompt and efficient manner. Maintain dining ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clears and resets tables as needed.
  • Answers phone in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Delivers ticket to guest/members upon meal completion.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Greets guest/members upon arrival; assists with seating as needed.
  • Presents menus/wine lists to guest/members and describes all daily specials.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation at all times; performs closing clean-up duties.
  • Opens/presents/pours wines and champagnes in a professional manner as needed.
  • Assists other staff members as needed to ensure optimum service to all guest/members.
  • Receives payment from guest/members; provide their change as needed; issues receipts.
  • Handles purchasing transactions, which include operating cash registers and accounting of daily sales.
  • Refills guest/members’ beverages as requested; monitors guest/members during meals to provide for all needs.
  • Suggests desserts to guest/members at the completion of the meal; accurately takes and delivers dessert orders.
  • Takes food and beverage orders accurately and courteously; respond to guest/members’ questions regarding food and beverage items.
  • Resolves guest/member problems/complaints; utilizes own best judgment in resolving issues or refers to management as needed.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abides by state liquor regulations; verifies legal drinking age of guest/members as needed.
  • Reviews food order for accuracy and presentation prior to delivering to the guest/member; coordinates with kitchen staff to rectify any deficiencies.
  • Accurately writes tickets for food and beverage items; turns tickets into kitchen/bar in a timely manner; coordinates with kitchen staff to clarify any special requests.
  • Possesses and maintains knowledge of all beverage selections available and characteristics/description of every wine/champagne on the wine list and by the glass; all menu items, preparation method/time, ingredients, sauces, portion sizes, presentation, and prices.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Previous experience in a restaurant setting preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • knowledge of state liquor regulations; ability to identify when a guest/member has had his/her alcohol limit.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Bilingual skills a plus
