Intermountain Electric, Inc is Hiring a Safety Coordinator Near Reno, NV

Overview

Support the safety initiatives of the organization by taking direction from the Safety and Risk Manager and location leadership. The position requires the ability to recognize, evaluate and eliminate, control safety risks through technical knowledge and expertise, while at the same time promoting a positive safety culture. Provides day-to-day Safety support at office and field locations. Develops, implements, and maintains safety programs for Reno location. The Assistant Safety Coordinator is responsible for the review, approval and enforcement of all safety procedures, training, and metrics reporting. Facilitate safety training for staff on an ongoing basis. Collaborate with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and business partners with the goal of reducing workplace injuries and maintaining a safe work environment for staff. The successful candidate will possess an initiative-taking and preventative mentality, strategy, and approach to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development and implementation of training programs and initiatives that help mitigate risk or injuries by effectively collaborating with field and office staff, contractors, and vendors. Proactively enhances and maintains an ongoing awareness of a culture of safety.
  • Create and maintain a training schedule.
  • Facilitate new and refresher safety training for new hires and existing staff.
  • Routinely walks job sites to perform safety inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative action, and maintain follow-up monitoring.
  • Provides compliance-based solutions to resolve safety issues
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of annual safety reviews, audits, and upgrading of existing safety Maintain safety files, records, and logs
  • Develop, implement and maintain near-miss and incident investigation programs for the business unit(s)
  • In collaboration with field leadership and staff, conduct accident investigations. Performs root cause analysis and provides recommendations for preventative solutions, possible remediation, and training.
  • Provides coordination and quality assurance for all incident reporting and data required by policy and safety manual.
  • Ensure facility and building compliance with, Federal, State, and all other applicable agencies, including but not limited to OSHA and MSHA
  • Build and maintain relationships with applicable regulating entities and maintain current industry knowledge on trends and available solutions
  • Conduct and manage weekly safety meetings on job sites
  • Review and participate in the development of Method of Procedure (MOP)

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of construction safety
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical environmental and safety requirements to safety, field staff, and business partners.
  • Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team in diverse work environments
  • Demonstrated computer skills, proficient in MS Office Suite with the ability to quickly learn and adopt innovative programs and software
  • Ability to identify and create best practices and procedures
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various regulatory codes and communicate to staff in a concise fashion
  • Ability to draft reports, internal procedures, performance reviews, training programs and presentations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments, customers, clients, guests, and regulatory staff.
  • Must have clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of construction experience in a safety-related role or significant safety duties
  • Experience as an electrician highly preferred and or strong understanding of means and methods of electrical construction
  • Knowledge, education, and/or experience in EHS programs
  • Current First Aid/CPR Training
  • Current OSHA 30
  • OSHA 500 Certification is highly preferred
  • Current MSHA 5000-23

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work weekends and evenings as required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, speak or hear, and climb stairs and ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
