INTERIM GROUP is Hiring a Housing Navigator Near Salinas, CA

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Housing Navigator will support homeless adults with severe mental illnesses who are in the process of preparing for and securing housing. The Housing Navigator will develop rapport and relationships with property managers, property owners, and agencies providing housing resources, in order to locate and secure appropriate housing for our clients. The Housing Navigator is responsible for collaborative efforts that build retention rates with property owners and property managers. This position will work directly with clients to identify behaviors that create barriers of obtaining and maintaining housing. This position will also help identify client skills that will assist them retain housing.

COMPENSATION

$23.52 - $30.63 per hour. Non-exempt; 40 hours/week; Eligible for Overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.

Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School Diploma. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a wide variety of staff, clients, property managers, property owners, and service providers. Desire to be an advocate to help individuals who are chronically homeless find and secure housing. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work collaboratively as a team. Good written and oral English communication skills.

Preferred: Bachelors in a Social Services or related field. Knowledge of community resources desired.

Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify affordable housing options for clients, searching daily for available housing units.
  • Develop rapport and relationships with property managers and property owners.
  • Prepare and present materials for presentations to realtors, property managers and property owners.
  • Maintain accurate records, including maintaining a Property Manager/Property Owner Contact Log.
  • Act as client advocate in securing appropriate housing.
  • Network and collaborate with Monterey County area housing resources and area homeless service providers.
  • Work directly with area homeless service providers to verify homeless status of clients and to complete Continuum of Care/Homeless Certification paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of progress notes, financial records, and other data necessary for client care and reporting goals/outcomes, including documentation required for Medi-Cal and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintain client related data systems, including CARS and HMIS.
  • Work directly with clients to identify housing needs, identify potential barriers to maintain housing, and develop strategies for housing retention.
  • Educate clients on different housing resources and options available to them. Work directly with clients to apply for and obtain appropriate housing vouchers, subsidies, and security deposit assistance.
  • Assist clients in their search for housing, filling out rental applications, interpreting leases and understanding tenant rights and responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidential, professional boundaries with clients.
  • Assist clients with moving (i.e. helping locate affordable moving companies, locating storage units, etc).
  • Conduct home visits and inspections with clients.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with Program Director, Case Coordinators, and Case Managers
  • Participate in staff meetings, collaborative case conferences, support team meetings, and other related meetings.
  • Demonstrate flexibility e.g. working various shifts as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
