Description

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, related field or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists. 
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness. 
  • Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. 
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. 
  • Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates. 
  • Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized. 
  • Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies. 
  • Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. 
  • Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

Success Factors/Job Competencies

  • Proficient math (more specifically geometry, fractions, and percentages), computer, and problem-solving skills are essential. 
  • Previous experience reading blueprints and architectural drawings. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables on a daily basis. 
  • Interpret multiple sets of instructions furnished in various forms (oral, diagram, and schedule form). 
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented, and a team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. 
  • The ability to attain moderate skills navigating in Estimating Software and manual estimating calculations. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people and customers. 
  • Regular attendance, punctuality, and dependability.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
