Job summary

The temporary Buyer II is a well-organized individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position interfaces primarily with the medical device manufacturing, engineering and R&D departments but has interaction with all levels of the company. The temporary Buyer II is responsible for the purchase and management of R&D, engineering and production material ensures that raw material components, lab supplies, chemicals, animals, equipment, services and other department needs are available to satisfy the business partner requirements. In addition, the temporary Buyer II is expected to develop purchasing control documentation in compliance with the current Quality Policy, cGMP and additional standards.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Assist business partners (engineers and scientists) with their supply, equipment and service procurement needs.
  • Initiate contact with prospective vendors, ensure NDA’s are in place, negotiate pricing, review quotes, product availability, terms of sales and lead times.
  • Assist in qualifying vendors by submitting and receiving appropriate documentation based on SOP’s and analyzing supplier operations.
  • Review, update and release SOP’s based on continuous improvement programs, quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for lab supplies, chemicals, in vivo study models, equipment, tools, raw materials, packaging materials, services and/or supplies necessary for operation of the department.
  • Support Buyer/Planners in converting purchase requisitions to POs.
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company specification, policy and enforce every contract term set with each vendor.
  • Analyze market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
  • Follow up on orders placed, verify delivery, expedite, maintain POs, and if necessary, approve payment and maintain appropriate records utilizing ERP reports.
  • Maintain PO status log for internal customers to communicate current delivery status.
  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
  • Update and Maintain spreadsheets to track material demand
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Minimum 2 years of Purchasing and Supply Chain experience
  • Prior medical device experience preferred.
  • Highly effective negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in contract generation and management, as well as supplier relationship management.
  • Experience with supply chain and material supply processes.
  • ERP experience a plus
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and communicate technical specifications
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Lean Manufacturing, TCO, Six Sigma or other Continuous Improvement experience preferred
  • Experience with FDA GMP Part 820, CE, UL and ISO 13485 preferred.
  • Proficient with writing SOPs and Purchasing documentation
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of work performed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
