Description
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Provides leadership to ensure the success and improvement of the engineering work process.
- Supervises engineering department, contractors, utilities operation, and owns all engineering projects, systems and activities.
- Ability to speak effectively to groups (customers, employees). Excellent communication skills and proven experience coaching and developing teams.
- Carryout inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with other department managers and leadership to set and assess priorities across teams.
- Assesses cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; makes and implements recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Supervises tooling operations, ensuring all work is performed accurately and according to quality and safety standards.
- Provides guidance and oversight in development and execution of plant renovations and expansions, coordinates outside contractors and vendors.
- Assists leadership with programs, activities, and responsibilities of the department.
- Ensures compliance with Environmental Health and Safety regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
- Manage adherence to capital budgets and management of change consistent with Inolex policy.
- Understands and promotes safety, quality, and production standards.
- Manage the design, layout, installation and maintenance of production equipment and the building facility on site.
- Develop and manage predictive and preventative maintenance programs for the site to ensure a high level of production efficiency and product quality.
- Develop and maintain the necessary emergency backup systems/contingencies to ensure business continuity.
- Develop and manages computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Manage and update list of critical equipment.
- Maintain records related to ISO9001 certification.
- Develop KPIs related to the reliability and operation of the site to identify, develop systems to gather data and track equipment performance and take appropriate actions.
- Investigate and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions in-order to maximize production efficiency and product quality.
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints, mechanical drawings, and maintenance instructions.
- Assist the Manufacturing Team with facilities improvements that ensure optimal worker safety, environmental compliance, and site housekeeping.
- Monitor utilities usage and provide reports internally and externally as necessary. Troubleshoot utility consumption issues to ensure maximum utility efficiency.
- Maintains replacement and spare part inventory at proper levels to ensure equipment is repaired in a timely manner.
- Develop relationship with local equipment and supplier vendors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare budgets and records.
Education and Experience:
- 10-15 years experience as a chemical engineer preferably in production/process area of specialty chemical products
- Bachelors degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering strongly preferred
- At least five years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with large scale batch operations including:
- Esterification/Transesterification/Polyesterification
- Amidation/Transamidation
- Quaternization/Betaineization
- Post-Reaction Processes including:
- Adsorption
- Neutralization
- Washing
- Distillation
- Steam Stripping (Deodorization)
- Filtration
- Experience with Rockwell Factory Talk or other appropriate PLC experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Located partially in an office and partially in a chemical plant and laboratory environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds; squatting and kneeling.
