Description

SUMMARY: 

The Mechanic diagnoses the source of malfunctions and trouble, dismantles equipment, examines parts, repairs materiel, reassembles equipment and documents actions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities listed in a satisfactory manner: 

  • Perform initial and final inspections on all equipment.
  • Performs organizational level and direct support service, repair and overhauls combat vehicle equipment, heavy construction equipment and motor vehicles
  • Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools and motor vehicles. 
  • Stays current on state of the art principles, practices and procedures to be employed.
  • Ensures work is complete and conforms to standards and requirements IAW technical manuals and local SOPS.
  • Accurately complete and submit associated forms for parts and work orders.
  • Conduct road tests on repaired equipment.
  • Provide assistance in the evacuation of equipment to higher level maintenance for repair.
  • Serve as Vehicle Control Officer, managing GSA vehicle fleet in coordination with the Troop Motor Pool
  • Track and maintain accurate accountability of equipment in for repair.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports as required.
  • Be able to perform other duties as required by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

The requirements identified below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to satisfactorily meet the expectations of this job:

  • Must be able to operate a Personal Computer (PC) with a functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (primarily Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Windows graphical user interface) and Data/web based systems required for task area performing work. 
  • Must have a working knowledge of Army rank structure and military unit relationships (e.g., Company, Battalion, Brigade, Division, etc). 
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions and be physically able to demonstrate the training/support tasks to standard. 
  • Must have the appropriate qualifications, certification, and/or license under the requirements for the task area being performed under this contract prior to commencement of work. 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

At a minimum, possess a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Must have completed military or civilian training in either wheeled vehicle/equipment maintenance, tracked vehicle/equipment maintenance or material handling equipment. Experience in a combination of vehicle/equipment types is preferred. Minimum five year(s) experience as a vehicle/equipment mechanic or similar trade experience. Previous technical experience preferred. Should have or previously have had a military driver’s license. An equivalent combination of education and experience as identified above.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Ability to read, comprehend and explain instructions, letters, memos, emails and correspondence from inside the organization as well as from external sources. Ability to effectively respond, communicate and present information to senior management, contracting officials, clients and other employees in the organization.

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to organize work, define and solve problems, establish and manage priorities, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions based on facts. Participate in prioritization of work and decision-making on allocation of resources. The incumbent must be able to analyze a situation analytically, evaluate the facts/data and formulate a plan of action.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid U.S. state driver’s license, applicable for the type and class of vehicle being operated. Must possess documented proof of mechanic raining and/or mechanic certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, kneel, bend, crawl, lie on back, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Duties are primarily performed in under sheltered environment, or outdoors. However, duties may involve travel to off-site projects, motor pools, maintenance facilities, etc. for short periods of time.
