POSITION SUMMARY:
This full-time (40 hours per week guaranteed; non-commission) Plumber position will expose you to many different projects throughout the facility and offers an unmatched opportunity to be a part of the execution and operations of our events. Responsible for maintaining and servicing the plumbing infrastructure around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which plays host to the World's Largest Single-Day Sporting Event, the Indianapolis 500®, and surrounding properties.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- With the Foreman, provides support for the Facilities department.
- Assembles, diagnoses, inspects, installs, maintains, removes, repairs, services, tests, and troubleshoots appliances, fittings, gaskets, pipe, pumps, valves such as coffee makers, drinking coolers/fountains, dishwashers, garbage disposals, misting fans, and water heaters, and fixtures such as bathtubs, faucets, sinks, showers, toilets, troughs, and urinals using hand and power tools.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, and services plumbing infrastructure utilizing equipment such as a drain cleaner and/or sewer camera.
- Measures, cuts, threads, and bends pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
- Studies blueprints, drawings, plans, and/or schematics where work will be performed. This allows a sequence of events to be determined.
- Locates, marks, and cuts openings in structures to accommodate pipe and pipe connections/fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Winterizes select water mains for (i.e. buildings, catering kitchens, concession stands, first aid stations, and restrooms) in areas that aren’t climate-controlled to prevent freezing.
- Dewinterizes select water mains for (i.e. buildings, catering kitchens, concession stands, first aid stations, and restrooms) so the plumbing infrastructure is operational for the event season.
- Tracks inventory and procures appliances, equipment, fixtures, materials, parts, supplies, and tools with Purchasing Agent.
- Coordinates with third-party contractors/vendors when construction, projects, and/or repairs are outsourced.
- Assists with planning and execution of upgrading aging plumbing infrastructure.
- Other duties as assigned. The Facilities department is responsible for the entirety of the grounds and buildings at the IMS. Due to the sometimes-unpredictable nature of being a multi-event facility, all Facilities employees may be required to occasionally help with responsibilities outside their normal job description.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Licensed Plumber in the State of Indiana preferred.
- Employer assistance for certification(s) and/or license(s).
Skills/Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ practical experience.
- Requires valid driver's license.
- Friendly and service-oriented.
- Willingness to build strong relationships.
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow oral and written direction.
- Effective mechanical aptitude.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, plans, and/or schematics.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves problems while demonstrating a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.
- Works efficiently and in a safe manner.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, hazards, ordinances, or regulations for the trade.
Travel/Work Hours
- No travel required.
- General hours are Monday-Friday, 7:15am-4pm, however this will vary during events and based on project workload. Candidates must be flexible through the event season (generally, April through October) and able to work overtime and weekends when needed.

- Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to maneuver body, materials, and tools precisely in confined and tight spaces (i.e. ceilings, crawl spaces, pits).
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Constant bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping.
- Constant reaching in high/low level positions and repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands.

- The noise level in the work environment can be loud, due to racing events.
