Indiana Youth Institute is Hiring a Community Connector Near Shelbyville, IN

IYI is looking for a Community Connector for our Promise Indiana program who:

The Community Connector, Promise Indiana will serve as IYI’s representative in either the Southern or Northern region of Indiana, leading and supporting the successful implementation of the Promise Indiana program goals and objectives. In addition, this position serves as a representative of IYI’s mission, vision, and values. The overall goal of the Community Connector is to engage youth-serving organizations, other non-profits, schools, universities, and corporations, connecting them to IYI’s Promise Indiana program sites. The Community Connector also provides ongoing support and coaching to program sites, aiming to ensure their long-term success and sustainability.

Most of the work for this position is performed in the field, and extensive travel within the assigned region is necessary. The Promise Community Connector will be based in a home office and from time-to-time additional hours over the standard workweek may be required.

Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

Community Engagement 

  • Maintain a portfolio of program sites, providing one-to-one monthly support to each site.
  • Lead Promise Indiana Advisory teams in support of each Promise Indiana site.
  • Facilitate activities to ensure alignment with IYI’s defined Promise Indiana service and outreach priorities.
  • Provide support to Promise Indiana partnerships by coordinating conversations, community meetings, and community outreach in the Promise communities.
  • Implement feedback and evaluation activities such as focus groups, surveys, and other channels that foster input from the field.
  • Educate the public about IYI programs, services, and events; identifies constituencies that need additional engagement and communications.
  • Coordinates with IYI Marketing, Evaluation, Data, Finance, and Technology teams to maximize the program’s success.
  • Present to youth-serving organizations statewide on Promise Indiana and IYI services, opportunities, and engagements to further our organizational reach.
  • Partner with leadership in the strategic planning and the attainment of goals for Promise Indiana community partnerships.
  • Strategize ways to spread awareness about IYI and Promise Indiana while also helping their community.

Administration 

  • Track service activities and relationships in IYI’s XRm system, assuring individual information is up-to-date, accurate, and relevant.
  • Brief team on weekly regional-related updates to find common themes, gaps, and opportunities for further engagement across Promise Indiana defined regions.
  • Document spending related to engagement and event coordination and management through monthly Expense Reports in Intacct.
  • Maintain a Promise Indiana project budget
  • Tracks public comments to assist IYI team in tailoring key messages and collateral material to specific audiences, including civic, business and opinion leaders, neighborhoods, organizations etc.; maintains stakeholder contact lists.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as performance metric tracking and reporting, and meeting preparations (agendas, minutes, notes).

General 

  • Establish and promote positive communication among all team members of IYI to increase collaboration and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Professionally represent IYI and Promise Indiana, at all times, providing courteous service to both internal and external constituents and presenting a positive image of IYI and Promise Indiana.
  • Interfaces with the Promise Indiana Director, to ensure consistent communications with communities potentially impacted by IYI projects, programs, events, and services.
  • Responds to partner inquiries and or requests for information and support.
  • Reviews routine communications tools for consistency.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Core skills needed (but are not limited to): 

  • Case management to help program site teams effectively deploy and sustain Promise Indiana’s goals. Includes advocacy, comprehensive assessment, planning, communication, education and engagement, resource management, and service facilitation.
  • Community convening to bring together community partners, local schools, and organizations to help move forward the mission of Promise Indiana.
  • Communication skills to engage and inspire partners and stakeholders.
  • Project management skills such as time management, scheduling, and coordinating meeting logistics.
  • Administrative skills needed to coordinate events, budgets, and people.
  • Ability to multitask with several project details at once to ensure effective publicity for the organization.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social casework, counseling social service or community resource referral, youth development, education, child welfare, family services, health, and/or juvenile justice or closely related work.
  • Well-organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with great attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and work independently with minimum direction and work as a member or leader of a team.
  • Self-discipline, a high level of independent judgment and decision making,
  • Ability to build long-term, trusting working relationships with diverse individuals and communities
  • Experience facilitating group workshops is a plus.
  • Required to travel approximately 40% of the time to meet agency needs (often in places of employment), attend conferences and meetings, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation. Drivers of privately owned vehicles must have valid driver's license and meet state-required automobile insurance minimums.

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position with a strong benefits package. Salary is competitive and commensurate with the level of experience.
