Indian River State College is Hiring an Assistant Controller/Senior Accountant Near Vero Beach, FL

 

Job Summary 

The Assistant Controller oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and is responsible for maintaining internal financial controls and implementation of accounting policies and procedures in compliance with FQHC, legal and statutory requirements. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supporting the overall financial management of the organization with a budget of $30M . This is a position of trust.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for directing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining the accuracy of financial records and the timely recording of all financial transactions, including payroll, disbursements, contract reporting/billing, donations, cash receipts, inventory, and necessary accruals and adjusting journal entries.

  • Ensures all records are maintained in compliance with GAAP and FQHC-LAL requirements, organization's accounting principles, policies and procedures, internal financial controls, and initiatives. 
  • Maintain the general ledger, prepare and/or review all entries.
  • Manages and supervises staff in the finance department.
  • Oversees the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Ensure proper allocation of shared costs, review and improve methodology on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget, prepares other budgets including grant related budgets.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain chart of accounts, orderly electronic accounting, and compliant document retention system.
  • Develop, analyze, and make recommendations relating to accounting and financial systems to ensure effective and efficient financial operations.
  • Ability to perform and review/ approval of bi-weekly payroll data to ensure accuracy before final processing of payroll.
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements and audits including Single Audit.
  • Maintain internal controls including that of inventory, procurement, payroll, receipts, disbursements, and other processes.
  • Perform internal audits and assess effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Consults with Director of Finance/CEO analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions.
  • Conduct monthly review and oversee reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including detailed analyses of balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Maintain reporting calendar and ensure that local, state, and federal government reports and tax filings are reviewed, and dates are met, including IRS Form 990.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep Director of Finance/CEO abreast of the financial status and cash flow projections.
  • Assist with preparation of UDS data.
  • Perform trend analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Finance and/or CEO.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Solid experience managing government contracts: budgeting, reporting, invoicing, etc.
  • Seasoned leader with strategic orientation and hands-on approach.
  • 5 years accounting or finance experience, including nonprofits with both public and private funding.
  • Payroll knowledge required.
  • Ability to stay informed of and implement regulatory changes.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence - ability to motivate staff.
  • Independent yet collaborative work style.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and reasoning skills. 

Requirements

  • WFHC requires all employees, volunteers and contracted individuals working full or part time at any of our facilities to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Level 2 background clearance required.
  • Must have all necessary vaccinations, a purified protein derivative (PPD) Test is done once upon hire.
