Overview

We are seeking a talented and energetic Systems Engineer who will interface with customers on a regular basis and provide technical leadership for key company projects at home and in the field. The successful candidate is expected to work well on his/her own and within the broader Illuminate organization.

You will work at customer locations in Northern VA, and/or our Herndon, VA office

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain reliable operation of systems, including server components and software, manage virtual servers and integrate automation processes
• Supervise performance of systems and troubleshoot hardware and software issues, running diagnostics, documenting problems, prioritizing resolutions, and assessing associated risks
• Provide local and/or remote support, troubleshooting and system administration support for field deployed systems and/or customer lab facilities
• Locations for equipment installation are international and requires travel

Qualifications

• Active or current TS/SCI w/ Poly
• Ability to obtain a medical clearance

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or related field. College degree, in some cases, can be substituted by work experience.

• At least four (4) years of relevant work experience in a systems administration role with two (2) years of relevant technical experience. 
• Flexibility to travel on short-term deployments.
• Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and solving problems in complex communications systems.
• Ability to identify and analyze functional and operational requirements, and develop solutions to satisfy emerging needs.
• Experience with hands-on rack-and-stack installation, commissioning and maintenance of servers and systems.
• Create installation guides and as-built documentation.
• Experience working directly with development team to resolve software and hardware problems; and, applying software and hardware patches
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, NAT, routing and switching
• Experience with firewall and VPN configuration
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
• Currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Understanding of mobile telecom network architectures and related hardware, software and protocols
• Knowledge of the theory and principles of telecommunications (i.e., SS7, telco subsystems design/architecture/implementation/configuration).
• Experience with Wireshark and analyzing logs, stack traces, debug libraries, software/hardware.
• Possesses an understanding of Python and Bash.
• Related OS and security certifications.
