REPORTS TO: Director of Library Services

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:30pm - 5:00pm, one evening shift per week, one Saturday shift per month

COMPENSATION: $72,505.42/year DOE Benefits, Exempt Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Academic Librarian plans, implements, and assesses library outreach programs and library instruction across college and community groups to facilitate student information literacy and address the academic and lifelong learning support needs of students, faculty, and community members of all ages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructional responsibilities include participation in discipline/department decision making process and work regarding curriculum, program development, Improvement of Instruction, and other professional matters.
  • Develop, implement, deliver and assess information literacy instructional activities, services, and materials in a variety of learning modalities for LS101, and for both group and one-on-one consultation settings.
  • Oversee the library’s website, develop subject/discipline LibGuides, promotional materials and social media initiatives that effectively communicate the library’s resources, goals, services, and news to a variety of audiences.
  • Assist the management of the library’s social media accounts.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with Iḷisaġvik, Student Services and faculty to provide programs and services for students, staff and faculty.
  • Develop and implement programs, activities, workshops, and trainings that support lifelong learning. Assist and support Public Services Librarian and their programs as needed.
  • Assist with Collection Development of main library collection with an emphasis on academic materials/ Iḷisaġvik courses
  • Compiles statistics, prepares reports, and keeps records of activities – emphasis on gathering all database and outreach statistics
  • May oversee and assist with various library projects including: inventory of library collection, review and deselect library materials, register new IC students, assist with development and update of library policies and procedures.
  • May oversee and train Iḷisaġvik student interns.
  • Coordinate the library's representation at college and community events and coordinate use of library's exhibit spaces.
  • Serves on library, college and professional committees.
  • Keep abreast of trends, techniques and standards in the delivery of library instruction, and adult, youth and lifelong learning programming to assist in long term planning in the corresponding areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in librarian duties including working regular day, evening, and some weekend shifts at the public service desk, collection development, cataloging, library orientations, as well as support duties such as preparation of statistical reports, evaluation of library programs, completing grant applications related to library programs, general research and special projects.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal and local laws, regulations and ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated service commitment.
  • Demonstrated professional experience developing and implementing library programs and outreach initiatives.
  • Experience with website design and/or creating LibGuides.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated bilingual ability in Iñupiaq and English.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.

EDUCATION//CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Library Science and/or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Two years demonstrated library experience.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Teaching experience, especially in library instruction
  • Valid driver’s license.

Health Insurance- Iḷisaġvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance- Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
