Position title: Teacher

Reports to: Director of Programs

Supervises: N/A

Position summary:

Teachers are responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Teachers will give blind and visually impaired students opportunities to experience a variety of daily living skills physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally while maintaining a safe encouraging environment. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments for blind/visually impaired students.
• Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.
• Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.
• Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
• Plan and implement educational activities and events.
• Ensure your classroom is clean and orderly.
• Will follow schedules and plans made by the Youth Program Coordinator.
• Attend parent-teacher meetings if needed.
• Evaluate and document students progress.
• Allocate and grade homework, and assignments.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures.
• Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities.
• Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Familiarity of basic computer operation and software. Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

Required Education and work experience:

• High School Diploma required
• Bachelors degree in teaching or relevant field is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 years experience as a teacher is required.
