Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer researches, plans, trains, executes, and facilitates operational improvement programs to create a culture of continuous improvement using Lean manufacturing methods that lead to employee empowerment, elimination of waste, and key results improvement. Specifically, the goal of this position is to improve safety, reduce cost, improve quality, reduce scrap, minimize rework, improve process reliability, and reduce set‑up times. Assist in coordination of the capital spending program, ensure accuracy of BOM and routing within the ERP system, and assisting in new product launch during and after implementation.

  • Lead continuous improvement projects through cross-functional team facilitation and project management
  • Partner with production management and other internal departments to provide engineering solutions to drive productivity
  • Work with customers, vendors, process support personnel and development engineering teams to ensure new product manufacturing methods are stable and capable
  • Develop and document new manufacturing methods, tooling and techniques for established equipment and new projects, including automation
  • Prepare and coordinate capital budget requests, plant layouts, process sheets (SOP), and other as required to drive productivity and process improvements
  • Work with equipment designers and manufacturers to develop innovative and cost-effective production methods for both new or existing product
  • Develop and maintain measurement systems for quality and efficient production processes.
  • Lead process and / or product design projects and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Improve the present manufacturing or production processes to improve productivity, quality, and profitability for the company utilizing LEAN methodologies (Kaizen / Shingijutsu techniques)
  • Work closely with potential suppliers to complete R&D, prototyping and process evaluation 
  • Collect and analyze data on manufacturing processes, procedures, and performance using evaluation tools and develop action plans to drive improvement in scrap, rework, direct labor costs, set‑up time, quality, cost, and lead time

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience applying Lean concepts and tools (6S, value stream mapping, visual workplace, flow and pull manufacturing, etc.)
  • Previous experience in CAD/solid models and spreadsheets.
