Director of Talent Management

Position Overview:

The Director of Talent Management is responsible for supporting and executing the vision and strategy of Talent Management under the Vice President of Talent Management for IDEA Public Schools. This role serves to ensure that the process implementation and execution of key talent management functions is done with intentionality and fidelity. As Director of Talent Management, you will add another layer of critical thinking, strategic problem solving and data analysis capability to ensure the interconnectedness and alignment of key initiatives of talent management across functional areas. In addition, you will provide the critical capacity needed to lead the implementation of new talent management projects and workstreams, manage our department business components with internal and external stakeholders, and focus on the developing or evolving strategic initiatives to respond to the current context and culture at IDEA. The Director of Talent Management maximizes the systematization and organization of talent management work and ensures that new projects are carried out fully. You will be a member of the IDEA Talent Management Team and directly support the team’s theory of action and definition of success, as well as the larger Human Assets vision. All together supporting over 10,000 employees across 12 regions in 5 states as we work toward our mission of 100% College for All.

  • National Position: This is a full-time, national team remote position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.
  • Reporting Structure: zero direct reports, reports to the Vice President of Talent Management
  • Travel Expectations: less than 15% annually
  • Work Hours: 40 hrs/wk

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $73,955 and $90,225 commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.

In this role you will:

  • Support the achievement of overarching Talent Management goals that align to the annual strategic vision and priorities for the talent management team
  • Design and implement an annual plan outlining how to best leverage Talent Management data to be informative and actionable for IDEA leaders
  • Lead the project planning for data collections, analysis, and dissemination for each round of the Staff Development Cycle (SDC), Talent Reviews, and the Great Place to Work (GPTW) annual survey
  • Own the scope & sequence and content for the HA retention Newsletter to increase leader engagement with this key Talent Management resource
  • Co-create and execute a Talent Management Learning series for performance managers across IDEA to increase manager knowledge, skill, and acumen
  • Co-create and execute a Talent Management Succession plan/module for selected senior leadership groups at IDEA to ensure our most critical roles are engaged and active in future leader planning and development
  • Lead a Talent Management task team to ensure consistent implementation of feedback, continuous improvement and innovation on current talent management processes and functions
  • Convene collaborative working groups and strategy sessions across Human Assets, Schools Team, and additional key stakeholder groups to problem solve, design, and cascade plans for new talent management initiatives and strategies to meet changing organizational needs
  • Research, develop, and customize best practices for talent management and staff retention to create an actionable bank of resources for IDEA managers to reference and implement
  • Manage the Talent Management AmEX, budget, and procurement functions to ensure team compliance and alignment with IDEA business operations

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3 years of talent management, talent support, or performance management experience required
  • 2 years of project management experience required
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Wrike, and other Microsoft office products
  • Experience with performance management and evaluation practices/systems strongly preferred

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and expertise on the talent management cycle, career pathways, and succession planning
  • Knowledge and experience in performance management and/or performance-based goal systems and structures
  • Skill in organization, prioritization, execution and follow through
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving at large scales across varying levels of impact
  • Skill in effective communication, both written and oral with multiple stakeholder types
  • Ability to analyze and present data to identify trends, build narratives, and inform strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks at once
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and time sensitive tasks

As part of the Talent Management team, you will contribute to reaching the following ambitious goals:

  1. 85% Staff Retention
  2. 82% Great Place To Work as measured by the Trust Index Model
  3. 95% Completion of all components of the Staff Development Cycle
  4. 80% effectiveness rating for the Talent Management Learning Series
  5. TBD by Director of Talent Management based on critical role initiatives and responsibilities once hired and onboarded
