Description

The Safety Specialist will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

This position requires travel.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Conducts regular safety training for all staff on proper use of PPE.
  • Trains all new hires on proper use of PPE.
  • Conduct accident investigations including thorough reporting of all factors, assemble witness statements, photos, worker qualifications and work with VP of Operations to implement any responsive changes in processes.
  • Ensure all OSHA recordable injuries are properly recorded and tracked.
  • Maintain all OSHA forms as required by law.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in solar inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a construction safety role or related field, solar preferred.
  • OSHA 500 or 510 certifications desirable, OSHA 30 in construction required.
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to work in extreme environments (example: hot sun, cold, etc.).
