Description

The primary role of the Electrical CAD Designer is to provide support to engineers by designing and modeling electrical layouts for mechanical and equipment engineering projects. The position will assist engineers in the field and accompanying them to worksites. The Electrical CAD Designer will be expected to work in a team environment and coordinate with other engineering teams on projects.

Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Able to apply national and local electrical codes to project work.
• Work closely with engineers to develop wiring details and construction plans.
• Update internal CAD standards; contribute to and maintain components library.
• Create as-built documents from inspection sketches and notes.
• Positive attitude, with a willingness to learn new technologies and methods.
• Provide expertise in various aspects of piping, engineering, and equipment layout design as well as other functions as required.
• Create and edit existing P&ID's, isometric and other engineering drawings.
• Assist in on-site measuring and estimation for projects.
• Set up specification sheets for projects.
• Travel to assist engineers in design work.
• Plan and section drawings.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associates degree in Drafting or CAD from an accredited program preferred or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of four years of experience in an industrial controls/electrical systems environment.
• Proficient with 2D/3D design and drafting software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Ability to read/understand electrical schematics and P&ID’s.
• Previous experience gathering and analyzing measurement data from the field.
• Knowledge of electrical and or structural codes.
• Ability to accurately interpret and critically evaluate design drawings and schematics.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines on multiple projects and maintain quality service while under pressure.
• High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
• Ability to work alone or within groups as necessary.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. Being able to explain technical issues to clients using common language.)
• Maintain professionalism when dealing with colleagues and clients.
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat.
• Positive attitude, with a willingness to learn new technologies and methods.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, ReCAP or Revit.
• Preferred experience with electrical application for process application in food and beverage and chemical industrial facilities.
