STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The ER Nurse provides direct nursing care for families, as well as individual clients, with complex interactions of nursing diagnosis. The ER Nurse uses complex communication skills with clients and collaborates with other health team members. The ER nurse manages emergency nursing care for clients and assumes an accountable role in change.
Requirements
A. Licensed or certified to practice as a registered nurse. Prefer minimum of two years experience in acute care. TNCC required (new graduate has 6 months to complete), ACLS and PALS (or ENPC) certification within 6 months of completion of introductory period.
B. Following a formal orientation, proficiency in the assigned clinical area is expected within six months.
C. Requires clinical knowledge, analytical ability and independent judgment necessary to implement individualized and comprehensive nursing care.
D. Cross training is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. Requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, feeling, talking, hearing and moderate lifting (exerting/lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly) of clients and equipment.
B. Risks exposure to communicable or infectious disease.
C. Subject to inside environmental conditions (protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change) and to atmospheric conditions (one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).
