Data Engineer

Job Description

The Data Engineer should be highly skilled in all aspects of data engineering, including data wrangling, building and maintaining data systems, constructing datasets that are easy to analyze, improve data reliability and quality, developing and testing architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for analysis, and support company requirements.

Shift and Hours

  • Full Time
  • Monday thru Friday
  • 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Schedules, including the days of week, are subject to change upon shift or customer/project needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build ETL Pipelines that move data continuously from an MS SQL Database on premises
  • Review ETL Tools for implementation (which may need a UI)
  • Create reporting on expectations and failures in the ETL process
  • Develop an internal data schema to store the PHI data
  • Conform to HL7 FHIR data format for the data schema
  • Create permission and roles for isolation and data control
  • Open gateways for connection to and from Tableau and other applications
  • Write documentation around the new internal schema for data science team.
  • Work with DevOps to plan for the migration of the on-prem to the cloud.
  • Build Cloud infrastructure through AWS
  • Responsible for building and organizing internal databases, servers, and computing software’s.
  • Developing and maintaining tidy datasets for modeling and analysis
  • Identify opportunities for data acquisition
  • Improving data quality and efficiency

  • Work well under pressure.
  • Must be detailed and organized.
  • Must have strong business acumen skills to better understand business issues, adapt and remain flexible during times of change, comprehend business operations and provide quality insight as to how to achieve goals and ensure business success.
  • Must have prior working knowledge of the following tools:
  • SQL
  • Snowflake
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Tableau (Prep, Desktop and Server)
  • Programming Languages: (e.g. Python)
  • Knowledge of:
  • Data Science
  • System architecture
  • Data processing environments
  • Agile product development and agile sprints
  • Strong command of ETL / Data wrangling operations:
  • Deep knowledge about data flows
  • Analytical and critical thinking to identify and resolve Data Quality issues
  • Collaboration with IT and business groups to extend flows, logic, and tools or to resolve Data Quality issues

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of data engineering (or similar role) experience or relevant coursework.
  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python)
  • Hands on experience with SQL Database design
  • Great numerical and analytical skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Information Technologies, Statistics, Business Analytics, or relevant cloud data engineering certificate (e.g. IBM Certified Data Engineer, etc). A Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Must know, understand, and follow HIPPA regulations when working with PHI data.
  • Ability to work agreed upon schedule.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, squat.
  • Ability to work with hands, see and hear.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Contingent upon a favorable pre-employment drug screen.
  • Contingent upon a favorable driving record (if driving is required) and background check.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license (if driving is required).

Work Environment

A Data Engineer can expect to work in a quiet, open-floor plan office layout that promotes and encourages investigative development. The engineer can expect a variety of fast-paced work that is to subject to change with client needs.

The Data Engineer position works in a data science team environment, assisting other team members in improving and interpreting data. Must be comfortable working directly with team leaders and executive decision-makers to offer recommendations and technical changes.

Must be comfortable occasionally spending time on-site, gathering firsthand information and observing operations at a more intimate level.
