Job Summary

The Vice President of Operations manages and oversees the onsite operations of the organization in order to help it run efficiently. This includes the warehouse operations of Human-I-T’s IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) teams and the in-person retail store operations of our Programs team. You will ensure the highest quality of work and assist in maximizing team productivity by building culture and rapport, training and adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), implementing basic lean production principles such as 5S, identifying continuous improvement opportunities, and reporting on key performance indicators and metrics.

As a senior leader within the organization, you will be a role model of Human-I-T’s values and principles, and you will be involved in strategic planning and budgeting, as appropriate. In addition, you will collaborate with other senior leaders from Business Development, IT, and other teams to facilitate inter-departmental communication and updates, build a culture of creative collaboration and excellence in execution, and improve our daily operations. You will supervise the day-to-day functions of the Operations department, managing a team of retail and warehouse leaders.

The Human-I-T warehouse is NAID AAA-certified for data security, so all employees must pass a third-party background check and drug screen as a condition of employment. The VP of Operations will report directly to the CEO.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and build a high performing operations team, as well as consistently reinforcing teamwork among team members

  • Build motivation among team members in order to achieve company performance goals and financial targets

  • Provide constructive feedback to employees and positively receive feedback from supervisors and incorporate it into daily work

  • Lead all Operations employees in our warehouses in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the company

  • Drive results within the operation through continuous improvement and leadership accountability in the following areas: safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and growth

  • Maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction for technology donors and recipient customers alike

  • Build, maintain and promote positive relationships with Business Development, Human Resources, Information Technology (IT), Accounting, and other departments’ personnel to ensure the highest levels of product quality, service, and customer satisfaction

  • Develop and implement improvements to eliminate operational wastes in the process while managing and evaluating multiple projects

  • Research, measure, plan and manage costs including labor, utilities, transportation and production supplies, in order to effectively manage company assets within budget while maintaining a highly efficient operation

  • Ensure company development initiatives are carried out to their fullest

  • Train and ensure all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Direct subordinate managers who manage employees in Logistics, Inventory, Processing, Shipping, and customer service departments

  • Interview, hire, and train employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs


Education:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in engineering, business management, or related field preferred

Experience:

  • At least 5 years management experience at an Operations/Warehouse Manager level or higher

  • Proven knowledge, experience and a history of success in operations with aptitude to manage KPIs

  • Prior experience managing multiple departments/locations

  • Experience in leading continuous improvement activities is preferred

  • Experience in the following tools is preferred: Strategic Deployment/X matrix, Value stream mapping, visual management/5S, standard work, metric boards, gemba/process walks, and huddles/stand-up meetings

  • 3 years of experience in Lean concepts within a manufacturing environment is preferred

Skills:

  • Excellent business acumen, strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Possesses excellent teaching capability

  • Excellent Written Communication Skills

  • Strong knowledge of lean principles & tools such as 5S, Value Stream

  • Mapping, Standard Work, Pull Systems and Visual Management

  • Expertise in problem-solving utilizing a formal program/process

  • Hands-on experience in managing cross functional projects or changes throughout all levels of business

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization

  • A holistic thinker who can look Department-wide to integrate and streamline systems for optimal benefit.

  • Catalyst to drive continuous improvement in operational areas, including connecting the cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams.

  • Passion and enthusiasm for driving improvement and leading change

  • Proven track record for developing, training, and coaching teams

  • Great communicator, including solid written, oral and presentation-giving skills

  • Spanish speaking skills a plus
