Visual Comfort & Co. is hiring a Technical Writing Manager in Skokie, Illinois.
The Writing Manager will manage self and others to review and examine products, CAD drawings, photos, and other engineering data to prepare and maintain instruction manuals, labels, catalog line art, specification sheets and other documentation used to successfully process technical terms and actions to more simple and understandable procedures for the general public. Essential Functions AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Examines engineering samples, drawings, photos, and other documentation for the creation of accurate installation instructions.
- Using regulatory data, properly use the correct language, labels, artwork, and formatting for documents.
- Translates technical terms and actions to simplify the product installation process.
- Assist in laying out material for publication.
- Creates and modifies product labels in accordance to regulatory codes.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating, installation, and detail.
- Creates custom illustrations for all departments including engineering, sales, and marketing.
- Be present in the work place to effectively collaborate and communicate amongst co-works and teams
- Must demonstrate commitment, dependability, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule as determined by manager.

Education: Bachelor Degree (related field)Computer Skills: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and/or equivalent graphic editing software, SolidWorks Composer, Corel Draw Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Related Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an image manipulation and/or graphic design environment. A minimum of 5 years full-time related experience in a production or engineering environment. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of written and visual communication.
- Understanding of a light fixture engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external partners.
- Capacity to utilize effective time and personnel management skills working against multiple deadlines and competing objectives.
- Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals without supervision.
- Must have excellent writing and illustration skills.
