Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Job Classification: Exempt, Full-time
Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of Hilltop Aspires
Salary: $50,000-$60,000/year
Primary Accountabilities:
The Hilltop Aspires Director of Finance serves the ministries of Dear Neighbor (“DNM”) and StepStone, as well as Hilltop (DNM/StepStone are non-profits that operate under Hilltop Aspires, Inc.). This position is a hands-on and participative manager responsible for overseeing all financial activities, business planning and budgeting, accounts payable, grant financial reporting, risk managing, processing payroll, and HR administrative support.
Major Duties:
  • Analyzes and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly financial statements and oversees all financial, program, and grants accounting.
  • Prepares and records all accounts payable, cash receipts, journal entries, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, and tracking of fixed assets for both DNM and StepStone.
  • Coordinates and leads the annual audit (Hilltop Aspires, DNM, and StepStone simultaneously) process and liaisons with external auditors and the finance committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Oversees and leads annual budgeting process, compiling data for use in accounting/financial statements.
  • Administers and reviews all financial plans and budgets compared to actual results.
  • Keeps Leadership team informed of the organization’s financial status.
  • Manages cash flow.
  • Maintains internal control and safeguard for receipt of revenue and expenditures.
  • Updates and implements all necessary business policies and accounting practices and recommends improvements to financial processes.
  • Provides grant reporting/tracking.
  • Completes monthly/quarterly grant financial reports and related financials review/audit; collaborates in the development of grant budgets.
  • Oversees payroll process with vendor.
  • Maintains employee files, benefit maintenance, and new hire processing.
  • Participates in annual benefit review with Executive Director.
  • Generates official internal documents in coordination with the outside HR consultant.
  • Works in a timely manner to provide information regarding administrative, fiscal, and program services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field. Degree requirement may be waived in lieu of experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in finance/accounting.
  • Non-profit experience and knowledge of grant financial reporting preferred.
  • Effective organization and planning skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong desire to serve and willingness to function in many settings and duties.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including strong Excel and accounting system knowledge.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the company.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions, both in a written and verbal manner.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
  • Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds occasionally and up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently.
  • Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
  • Ability to climb multiple levels of stairs.
Work Environment:
  • Inside/indoor office environment which provides protection from weather condition, but not necessarily temperature changes.
  • Interaction with staff and customers.
