Job Information
We currently have an Two (2) Accountant level positions open - One (1) Accountant I position and One (1) Accountant II position. Position starting pay for Accountant I: $26.47/hour. Position starting pay for Accountant II: $29.21/hour. The initial review of applications will begin starting the week of October 3rd. Applications received before the initial review date will be considered, with qualifying applicants being eligible to participate in the phone screen process.

Position Summary
Under direct supervision assists higher level accountants and managers by preparing and participating in technical accounting work in the public housing program, Section 8 housing programs, and non-subsidized housing programs; prepares various accounting, statistical and narrative reports.
ACCOUNTANT I
This is the first level of the Accountant series. This position has a broad knowledge of accounting systems and programs; and, has the ability to apply accounting principles to facilitate fiscal control, develop accounting processes, and evaluate and analyze financial records and reports.
Day-to-Day Glimpse of the Accountant I: Process and review grant check runs, process IRS/EDD garnishments, process and mail repayment agreements, grant billing, grant deposits and associated accounting, monthly grant internal reporting and financial statements, grant funding reconciliations, grant journal entries and other misc. journal entries including allocation, process bank and accounting transfers, prepare 1099 and associated reporting, customer service calls, assist with audits, bank reconciliations, assist in annual budget preparation and analysis, internal review, support staff, meeting with finance staff and operation staff.
ACCOUNTANT II
This is the second level of the Accountant series. This position has a greater knowledge of
accounting systems and provides difficult professional financial analysis and fiscal interpretation requiring substantial understanding and application of accounting principles.
Day-to-Day Glimpse of the Accountant II: Bank reconciliations, assist in annual budget
preparation and analysis, internal and external financial reporting monthly and upon request, internal review, grant revenue and expenses, journal entries and allocations, grant billing, grant funding reconciliations, audit requests and lead sheets, support staff, meeting with finance staff.
ACCOUNTANT I

1. Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of detailed accounting, statistical and/or narrative financial statements or reports requiring analysis, interpretation, and a thorough understanding of the account structure and the relationship of data contained in the reports.
 
2. Reviews, evaluates and assists in the preparation and maintenance of the budget and internal controls.
 
3. Provides support by reviewing the classification and distribution of income and expenditures to proper accounts; reconciles general ledgers, bank statements, logs and other fiscal records related to complex entries, payments and collections.
 
4. Assists in conducting revenue analysis and other accounting studies, and participates in writing reports.
 
5. Tracks, reports and disburses routine federal or state grants.
 
ACCOUNTANT II (in addition to the above duties this level Accountant may include the following, but are not limited to:
 
6. Independently prepares a variety of detailed accounting, statistical and/or narrative financial statements or reports requiring analysis, interpretation, and a thorough understanding of the account structure and relationship of data contained in the reports.
 
7. Provides support by analyzing the classification and distribution of income and expenditures to proper accounts; and, developing complex rate or cost allocation models.
Accountant I – Bachelors degree preferred with major course work in accounting, business administration, public administration or related field. One (1) year of increasing responsible experience performing higher level accounting duties, analysis and records management. Public agency accounting experience preferred. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
 
Accountant II – Bachelors degree required with major coursework in accounting, business administration or related field. Three (3) years of increasing responsible experience performing higher level accounting duties; analysis and records management, including a minimum of three years as an Accountant I, or equivalent. Public agency accounting experience is preferred. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
