Housby Mack is Hiring a Staff Accountant Near Des Moines, IA

FLSA Status: Exempt

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Housby is looking for an ambitious Staff Accountant to join our growing team to perform a broad range of accounting functions. This position will be responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash control, general ledger, and various other accounting related tasks for our heavy equipment side of the business.

EXPECTATIONS:

Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Update accounts receivable.
  • Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations. Enter invoices, purchase orders, reconcile vendor accounts and perform accounts payable functions.
  • Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines.
  • Perform day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting and recording accounts receivable's data.
  • Process cash receipts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Verify discrepancies by resolving client's billing issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • File accurate sales tax returns for the State of Iowa.
  • Responsible for making collections calls on unpaid accounts and expected to continually work towards resolving all collection issues in a timely manner.
  • Set up new customers by setting credit limits and pulling credit reports.
  • Set up fixed assets with proper depreciation.
  • Reconcile credit card statements.
  • Reconcile and post monthly manufacturer statement.
  • Maintain heavy equipment inventory; book whole good sales and figure sales commission.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close, while maintaining timely and accurate reporting.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary accounts.
  • Type accurately, as well as prepare and maintain accounting documents and records.
  • Research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Maintains professional image.
  • Expected to follow the company's safety rules and safety policies.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for numbers.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have and follow Housby's Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience preferred or similar combination of education and experience.
