Hotel Laguna is looking for a Pastry Assistant to join their team! We are looking for a candidate that has a passion for pastry, looking to develop and enhance their skills and someone who is eager to contribute to an awesome team environment!

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Assist pastry station for optimum production and quality.
• Prepares all freshly baked goods, puddings, gelatins, frozen desserts, stewed and baked fruits, pies, cakes, French pastries and other baked items using fresh ingredients.
• Lights ovens, if necessary; collects needed ingredients so they can warm to room temperature.
• Assists with a la carte pastry and buffet dessert table set up and presentation.
• Helps maintain the cleanliness of the baking area.
• Notifies Pastry Chef in advance of expected product shortages.
• Notifies Pastry Chef regarding supplies needed to prepare menu items.
• Ensures that work area is safe and secure.
• Understands and follows proper sanitation practices including those for personal hygiene.
• Adhere to state and local health and safety regulations.
• Maintains the highest sanitary conditions.
• Makes recommendations for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the bakery area and equipment.
• Wraps, labels, dates and neatly stores re-usable leftover products.
• Attends appropriate departmental staff meetings.
• Completes other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Pastry Chef and/or the Executive Chef.

Physical Requirements:

• Kitchen environment can change from working in heated areas ( 110⁰F) or in freezers(-10⁰F) for possibly one hour or more.
• Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours daily.
• Must be able to walk and stand for several hours with sometimes continuous movement.
• Must be able to physically handle kitchen equipment, knives, pots, pans, grasp items, lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to use equipment and machinery such as slicer, blender, hand blenders, pasta machines and other kitchen machines.
• The kitchen can be subject to loud noises and worker must be able to work in environment which has elevated volume.
• Must be able to work in a fast-passed environment
• Must be able to push carts with 250 pounds on occasion
• Must be able to bend, reach, stretch during activities such as cleaning
• Requirements are ability to write, grasp, stand, sit, walk, repetitive motion, bending, climbing, listening, and ability of hearing, speaking, and visual acuity.
• Must have manual dexterity and able to operate all necessary equipment of kitchen including office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, photocopiers and other office equipment.
