Facilitating Open Hours and Programs

Job Title: Program Assistant

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: 1034 W. Broad Street, Horseheads, NY 14845, Arnot Mall Playroom

Classification: part time, hourly, non-exempt

Salary: starts at $15/hour (negotiable based on qualifications and experience)

Hours:

  • Tuesday evenings (1:30-7:00), Wednesday evenings (3:00-7:00) and Saturday day shifts (9am-3pm) are required.
  • This position can expect 10-20 hours per week, dependent upon program need.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Horseheads Family Resource Center (HFRC) Executive Director, this position is responsible for:

  • Assisting with the day to day operations of the Center in addition to helping to foster a warm and caring environment that promotes family well-being.
  • Take training to lead small group programming like Music & Movement.
  • Positively interact with all members of the community, advocate for HFRC programs, and defer to the Executive Director in determining an appropriate course of action when encountering specific family issues.
  • Updating center crafts, sensory bins and posted information.
  • Updating social media and posting information digitally.
  • Purchasing supplies and stocking each location.

Key Job Duties

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the HFRC mission and core values. Practice these in relation to families at the Center.
  • Maintain the physical space to meet program requirements to ensure that it is clean, organized, and inviting.
  • Assist in the direct delivery of planned programs and Playful Learning hours.
  • Assist with the collection and submission of attendance logs, registration forms, and surveys.
  • Communicate to families and visitors about HFRC programs, events, and activities.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director to review work.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned or may arise due to the nature of the position.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established HFRC policies, protocols, and safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Human Services, Early Childhood, or a related field.
  • Experience in working with children and families.
  • Have a strength-based approach to families.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable, insured transportation.
  • Commitment to work scheduled hours.
  • Demonstrable active listening skills and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Follow ADA guidelines for fragrance sensitivity and multiple chemical sensitivity.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands required for this position:
  • frequently lifting/moving/carrying up to 10 pounds of Center equipment and supplies; regularly lifting up to 25 pounds; infrequently lifting above 25 pounds; and using a cart or wagon to transport items or children
  • moving efficiently within the rooms, between the rooms, and between the building and outside parking lot and playground
  • working with young children and school aged children in an early learning setting which includes sitting on the floor, squatting, and bending while participating in play
  • being exposed to young children and diverse families
  • Criminal background and child abuse clearance checks will be administered after employment is offered.

Working Conditions

The following physical conditions and hazards may be encountered: noise, dust, chemical cleaning products, variance in temperatures, moisture and/or humidity.

HFRC is located in a shared space environment requiring set up and tear down for program activities.

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to meet the physical demands listed above.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
