POSITION SUMMARY

Title: Production Engineer

Work Status: Full-time

Department: Engineering

Work Schedule:

M-F: 8am-5pm; Lunch: 1-2pm

Work schedule may vary depending upon project requirements.

Reports To: Director of Production Engineering

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Lawrence, KS

Pay Type: Bi-weekly Salary

Travel: Minimal - <10% (5 Weeks or Less)

The Production Engineer is responsible for working at the direction of a Production Engineering Lead on a project-by-project basis focusing on the drawing, BOM, and engineering release components of our work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Main priority is to develop accurate GD’s for customer approval, as directed by the PMs/PEs, to meet established Release to Production dates.
  • Produce accurate fabrication drawings to meet established Release to CAM Engineering dates.
  • Check Production Engineering drawings and BOMs to ensure they correctly detail the intent of stack-up and GD drawings.
  • Monitor project progress and follow up as necessary to ensure planned project schedules are maintained.
  • Develop expertise in the design aspects important to the customers including sanitation and safety.
  • Process warranty claims with customer service and actively pursue &/or implement corrective actions to eliminate issues within the control of this organization.
  • Develops, revises and organizes Encompix (ERP system) Bills of Materials for new, re-designed and revised components.
  • Assists in updating standard BOMs, drawings and 3D models for product library.
  • Occasional assistance in R&D projects.
  • Occasional assistance in Marketing related projects.
  • Participate in department improvement and other initiatives as directed by VP of Engineering
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

  • Operates in a professional office environment.
  • Occasional exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites such as working in high and low temperatures, climbing up onto silos or rooftops, etc.
  • Required to work around/near industrial metal equipment including machinery such as plasma table, hand plasma cutters, MIG welders, TIG welders, etc.
  • Work site is an industrial facility with a dusty atmosphere (i.e. stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum metal dust.
  • The noise level in the production facilities and at job sites can vary.
  • Subject to paint fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or other atmospheric conditions.
  • Occasional work required in confined spaces (narrow passageways, areas with low overhead clearances, etc.).

Physical and Mental:

  • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, kneeling.
  • Frequent bending and stooping.
  • Frequently required to move about, use hands/fingers to operate office equipment, and communicate.
  • Occasional lifting or moving objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional use of stairs to collaborate with engineering/production.
  • Close visual acuity required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts.
  • Visual acuity required to operate motor vehicles.

Equipment Operated:

  • Regularly operate standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Operation of company work trucks (rarely).
  • Operation of rental cars (occasionally).

BACKGROUND & COMPETENCIES

Required:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent technical education
  • CAD experience (Autocad preferred)
  • Thoroughness, clear logically reasoning, an ability to focus, and a predisposition toward meticulous attention to detail.
  • Natural ability to work through issues without confrontation and with the best interests of the customer and company in mind.
  • Well-reasoned, informed, and timely decision making, analysis, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment/environments and the ability to quickly understand issues of a technical nature.
  • Ability to lead by example through mature discourse, a willingness to accede to other viewpoints, and by jumping in and working alongside others in getting the job at hand done.
  • Proficiency with understanding technical drawings
  • Ability to think 3-dimensionally and perform basic geometric and mathematical manipulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3D modelling experience (Solidworks preferred)
  • Knowledge of effective utilization of ERP systems (Encompix preferred)
  • Bulk material handling and pneumatic conveying experience/exposure
  • Vendor management experience

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Candidate must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record if driving is necessary to the position. Candidate must authorize HorizonPSI to perform an MVR (motor vehicle report) before hire, at the expense of HorizonPSI. Unsatisfactory report findings will immediately disqualify the candidate from employment consideration.

Candidate must perform and pass a DOT (Department of Transportation) physical and substance screening if driving/hauling DOT vehicles/trailers are necessary to the position, before hire, at the expense of HorizonPSI. Unsatisfactory test result findings will immediately disqualify the candidate from employment consideration.
