Do you enjoy leading organizations? Do you enjoy leading a process that produces products? Do you like working with people? If so, then our Plant Manager position at our Lumber Mill in Silver Creek, Mississippi is right for you.

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution centers that include two plywood, four lumber manufacturing plants and fifteen specialty wood product distribution operations. All located in fourteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.

Purpose: Manage the overall operations of a lumber manufacturing plant. This is to be done in the safest, most efficient and profitable manner. While maintaining good employee relations, meeting the company’s product needs, operating within company policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Head the safety activities of the facility.
  • Develop and execute operating plan for plant in accordance with company business plan.
  • Monitor and manage key operating measures for the plant, including budgets, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Work with team members and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas, and help staff achieve goals.
  • Manage ongoing plant operations through supervisory staff.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and manufacturing team. Drive teamwork among plant employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Serve as the primary business contact with company level management on planning, operating, and production matters.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers.
  • Oversee maintenance and plant improvements. Manage capital expenditures.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and expectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • In coordination with the HR Manager, manage the human resources activities of the plant within company policies and guidelines.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, excelling in teamwork.
  • Knowledge and clear understanding of lumber manufacturing processes.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.

Required education/experience:

  • Bachelor’s level education in forestry, business, marketing or a related area highly preferred, but not required.
  • Ten plus years of lumber and/or Wood Products experience. Direct supervisory experience (3-5 years), experience managing supervisory or lead employees (3-5 years) in multiple plant operating areas.
