Job Description

JOB TITLE: Server

POSITION: Non- Exempt

RESPONSIBLE TO: AGM – GM

Scope and General Purpose

As a Server you will be expected to, promote menu items, take customers’ orders, serve food and beverages, prepare itemized checks, and accept/process payment.

Main Duties

1. Thorough knowledge of all menus, specials, wine lists, beer and drinks.

2. Receive customers’ orders and relay them to the kitchen promptly and accurately.

3. Serve courses from the kitchen and service bars in a timely manner.

4. Garnish and decorate dishes prior to serving when necessary.

5. Ensure meal meets all standards including accuracy and proper temperatures before serving.

6. Utilize proper up-sell techniques when taking orders. Offer appetizers, desserts and premium drinks.

7. Ladle soup, toss salads, portion desserts, brew coffee, and perform other services as determined by the establishment's size and practices.

8. Observe guests to confirm satisfaction and respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.

9. Request proper I.D. from guests purchasing alcoholic beverages to ensure they are of legal drinking age.

10. Pre-bus tables continuously by removing dishes when filling beverages.

11. Assist clearing and resetting of tables at conclusion of meals ensuring that the restaurant is kept immaculate.

12. Collect payment, operate the cash register and POS, and maintain proper cash handling procedures.

13. Order or request necessary supplies to ensure optimum guest service.

14. Perform opening and closing duties and complete assigned stocking and cleaning on a daily and weekly basis.

15. Address and resolve guest complaints and inform management

16. Be attentive to inebriated guests: stop serving immediately, notify bartender, fellow servers, and management, attempt to find alternative transportation.

17. Servers sometimes perform the duties of other food and beverage service workers. These tasks may include escorting guests to tables, serving customers seated at counters, clearing and setting up tables, or operating a cash register.

18. Attend required meetings and pre-shift meetings.

19. Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and, other departments

20. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility by inspecting food quality standards and sanitation regulations.

21. Abides by all policies and guidelines as described by Hawkeye Hotels Employee Handbook.

22. Provide security for guests, employees, and property by a. Adhering to security procedures for guest room keys and master keys. b. Understanding all hotel emergency procedures c. Reporting any suspicious activity to management

  • Technical o Ability to operate and control equipment such as; POS systems, beverage machines, computer, calculator
  • Physical o Ability to stand for long periods of time o Use hands and fingers to manipulate, hold and carry objects. o Frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. o Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. o Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Knowledge / Experience: o No experience required. Prior hospitality experience preferred.
  • Availability o Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Work Environment: o Noise level is affected by number of guests using the food/beverage service.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $12.00 per hour
