Description

Position Summary: The Laundry Aide is responsible for the completion of all duties to launder items in a safe, sanitary and responsible manner as directed by the Environmental Services Director.

Essential Functions

• Collects items for laundering in the facility including linens, garments and other items.
• Sorts and organizes all items for laundering in compliance with sanitation and infection control guidelines.
• Performs duties with the highest degree of care for clean and sanitary outcomes.
• Folds, hangs, stacks, stores and distributes all laundered items.
• Adheres to the department’s system for organizing and storing supplies and equipment in laundry work area(s) and equipment storage areas.
• Completes regular inventories of supplies as directed.
• Assists in receiving deliveries and stores items properly and as directed.
• Reports all repair issues on equipment to the department supervisor.
• Performs duties consistent with infection control measures.
• Ensures that current and new personal items of residents are properly labeled at all times.
• Complies with the company’s employee safety prevention and accident reporting program.
• Participates in conducting fire drills and other safety drills.
• Attends all required training and meetings.
• Attends all required in-services as directed.
• Takes part in employee orientation as directed.
• Cooperates and problem-solves with other departments and staff, residents, families, vendors, and others to support the residents’ needs.
• Timely response and follow through on all communications.
• Protects the confidential nature of resident information and adheres to resident rights.
• Follows all company policies and procedures.
• Works extra hours when necessary and performs duties of other positions as needed.

• Knowledge of handling, sorting and laundering soiled linen and other items
• Dedicated interest in assisting a senior population.
• Able and willing to take direction from management.
• Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
• Patience and acceptance of constant change in own work environment.
• History of ethical conduct.
• Reads, writes, speaks, and understands the English language.
• Communicates effectively.
• Ability to organize work duties to meet deadlines.

Preferred Education or Experience

• High school Diploma or GED

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to finger, feel, handle controls, talk, walk, hear, reach out and up with hands and arms, stoop and kneel.
• May stand or sit for long periods of time.
• Requires physical contact with residents.
• Must be able to easily lift, carry, and otherwise move at least 50 pounds.
• Must be able to tolerate changing temperatures when moving inside and outside the facility.

Work Environment

The work environment is a professional healthcare environment. Employees could be exposed to:

• Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
• Contagious or infectious diseases.
• Dermatitis from frequent hand-washing.
• Needle stick injury.
• Bio-hazardous waste.
• Chemicals used for laundering, cleaning and sanitizing; fumes and odors.
• While performing clerical duties, the work environment includes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
