Overview

Holcim Hagerstown Cement Plant is looking for a process engineer professional to join the team and actively operate, improve and boost the efficiency and reliability of a state of the art precalciner cement kiln and vertical raw mill.

Being an advocate of boosting environmentally friendly production methods, including harnessing solar electrical power and reduced carbon fuels, ramping-up low carbon containing cement production, the Holcim Hagerstown Cement Plant in 2023 is to be starting-up a low carbon fuel dosing/burning technology targeting the substitution of about 50% of coal fuels to recycled low carbon fuel mix.

We are looking for an experienced process engineer professional to join this dynamic and fast growing work environment and to become part of an exciting and challenging journey. 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Analyse operations of the Plant and make recommendations for process efficiency improvements including Cost/Benefit Analysis.
  • Develop process control automation and computer applications for process control.
  • Prepare computer reports on the process of operating efficiencies and failure investigation analysis
  • Perform tests on operating plant systems to determine the efficiencies of the equipment.
  • Provide assistance to management in maintaining the Plant within environmental and quality performance regulations.
  • Monitor and develop Control Room Operators to operate the plant efficiently and safely
  • Plan, perform, evaluate process audits (kiln, raw mill, finish mills) and make recommendations to improve
  • Specifically, responsible for the rotary kiln operation efficiency monitoring and improvements, including efficient and sustainable AFR co-processing to the calciner

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

  • Works closely with the equipment suppliers, plant staff and Process Area Teams to ensure the successful operation of the plant.
  • Works with Plant Reliability, Plant Maintenance, Plant Production, Plant CROs, Shift Supervisors on a daily basis

Qualifications

Education: Technical Secondary School/High School specialized in operating heavy industrial production facilities/power plants or a BSc in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering 

Additional Education Preferred: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree

Field of Study Preferred: Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or operating/maintaining heavy industrial facilities

Required Work Experience:

  • 12 years in operating/improving heavy industrial facilities (power plant, cement plant, raw iron and/or steel plant, etc) 
  • 5 years in a Process Engineer or equivalent role employed in a cement plant with a demonstrated ability and achievements in improving rotary kiln operation efficiency including alternative fuel utilization
  • Experience in Commissioning/start-up and ramp-up of heavy industrial facility (partial or whole production facility, like a cement plant, power plant, raw iron or steel plant, or equivalent)

Required Computer and Software Skills: SAP, TIS, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)

Travel Requirements: 15%

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language.
