Holcim US is Hiring a Plant Engineer Near Seattle, WA

Overview

The Plant Engineer is the onsite technical expert and is responsible for developing and implementing technical and mechanical improvements for the facility. This person will gain an understanding of plant equipment and will be able to identify deficiencies through mechanical and process inspections. This person will manage small and large CAPEX site projects such as civil repair and mechanical installations and this role will have strong ties with the maintenance department to help drive continuous improvement and reliability.

The Plant Engineer will be a technical safety knowledge resource for the plant population.

Responsibilities

Health and Safety:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Ensures safe and healthy working conditions in sites under his/her responsibility
  • Is a subject matter expert on technical safety subjects and able to share this knowledge with the operating groups in the plants
  • Draws attention to, and provides feasible solutions for the elimination of repeat housekeeping issues throughout the plant.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations
Financial Management:
  • Promotes a culture of performance. Effectively develops goals and objectives to implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement. 
  • Leads the development of, and is the owner of, the plant’s capital plan and will implement a majority of the plants capital projects. Leads the development of the plant’s project write-ups and ensures the plant’s financial tracking of the projects meets the standards of LafargeHolcim. 
  • Conducts regular process line audits (mills, dryer, barge loading/unloading, bulk truck & rail loading, etc.) and tracks the implementation of opportunities that arise from these audits.
  • Tracks the consumption and looks for cost saving opportunities on energy costs (Gas & Power)
Customer Focus:
  • Ensures that products made meet customers/market internal quality objectives
  • Ensures that the production meets markets demands
  • Collaborates with Sales and Distribution
  • Communications transparently and timely to the needs of Distribution and Sales.
Operations Management:
  • Ensures the operating efficiency of all major pieces of plant equipment (from raw materials & fuels receiving, through raw grinding, fuel preparation, pyro processing and cement grinding.
  • Leads the plants predictive maintenance and equipment health program in partnership with the maintenance team
  • Supports the development of best practices & processes to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class.
  • Effectively use LafargeHolcim resources and programs to drive operational excellence. 
  • Contribute to the development and application of plant policies and procedures.
  • ‘Walks the floor.’ Takes the time to be present in all locations of the operations, and to be open to all levels of the organization, to communication and concerns.
  • Comfortable with the plants automation system to the point of troubleshooting the back-end logic.
Environment, Land & Community Relations:
  • Establishes the environment as a priority. Ensures all local and state and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following LafargeHolcim best practices and the conditions of site permits are strictly adhered to.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in Engineering or related field.

Experience and Skill Set:

  • Minimum 5 years of cement manufacturing experience or similar industry.
  • Strong mechanical or process knowledge.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
  • Independent thinker
  • High capacity of working under pressure and stress
