Overview

The Maintenance Planner is part of the plant management team and is responsible for the mechanical planning, coordinating, and execution of the repairs and maintenance of Holcim property and equipment. The Maintenance Planner directly manages the mechanical execution team (lead hand, inspector, millwrights) and ensures the most efficient use of internal resources, contractors and cost.

This role drives continuous improvement by working alongside the plant engineer to develop a robust PM and inspection program. Success in this role would be a plant shift from reactive maintenance to preventive maintenance with a high level of execution on planning.

One of the primary objectives of the Maintenance Planner is to improve the value of all company assets through increased reliability and lower operating costs while allowing the operation of the equipment to meet production requirements.

This role is great for a driven person that wants to progress into leadership or management roles within a large multinational organization.

Responsibilities

  • Sets and enforces a strong culture of housekeeping and safety standards at job sites.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Drives and developments a robust preventive maintenance program.
  • Develops and implements a process to effectively schedule and coordinate the activities of mechanical maintenance with due regard to production requirements, the priorities of others and overall plant maintenance requirements.
  • Provides daily instruction to the maintenance lead hand and has a field presence to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Promotes a culture of performance. Strives to deliver the best maintenance at the best total ownership cost. Continuously looks for opportunities for improvement, challenges and supports the planners, supervisors, and tradespeople in seeking the most efficient use of company resources.
  • Is available outside of normal work hours in case of emergency repairs, and is responsible for assessing the situation and assigning the call out.
  • Ensures compliance with the Collective Agreement within the department and manages all labour issues within the department in compliance with the Collective Agreement

Dimensions: 

  • Direct Reports: (1) Maintenance Lead
  • Indirect Reports: Hourly (5): 4 Maintenance workers, 1 inspector.
  • Volumes: 400,000 tonnes
  • Barge offloading, rotary dryer, belt conveyors, grinding mills (2), bucket elevators, FK pumps.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education is an asset including engineering.
  • Excellent trades experience would be considered in lieu of education
  • 5 years manufacturing or heavy industry experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Good knowledge of working in unionized environment
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
  • High capacity of working under pressure and stress
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
