HNTB Washington Office is seeking a technically sound biologist with strong leadership skills who is ready to be challenged and lead environmental field work and documentation tasks. The candidate will have experience in conducting wetland delineation field work in Washington, preparing biological assessments for linear transportation projects, and completing environmental permit applications, environmental documents, and other technical reports to support project delivery. What You'll Do: Coordinates and conducts with other staff in the collection and analyzing of data obtained for projects. Determines or develops best methodology and technical approaches for conducting analysis in field work; sets up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data. Examines and evaluates present and future potential environmental science effects relating to the planning, design, and construction of proposed projects. Serves as task lead or principal author in the preparation of reports, on environmental science effects of projects. Provides technical scientific support on environmental issues to project managers during the planning, design, or construction of projects. Performs review of work to ensure the design or construction are in compliance with design criteria and scientific specifications and determines the need for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs if necessary. Supports the marketing and proposal preparation of potential opportunities or projects. Leads the preparation of applications and supporting documents for local, state, and federal environmental permits as well as other regulatory compliance laws and regulations. Assists in organizing, preparation, public meetings as well as possible participation in public meetings. Attends various meetings with clients, other engineering firms, and staff and may lead discussion on environmental science issues. Performs other duties as assigned. What You'll Need: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or related field and 6 years relevant experience, or Master's Degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or related field and 5 years of relevant experience What You'll Bring Conducts field work, including assessments and determination of wetlands, streams, and other sensitive areas Serves as a task lead or a principal author in the preparation of reports, including wetland and stream reports, Endangered Species Act documentations, mitigation reports, monitoring reports, and other relevant reports needed for projects. Determines or develops best methodology and technical approaches for conducting analysis in field work; sets up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data. Examines and evaluates existing conditions and potential environmental impacts relating to the planning, design, and construction of proposed projects. Provides technical scientific support on environmental issues to project managers during the planning, design, or construction of projects. Performs review of work to ensure the design or construction follow design criteria and scientific specifications and determines the need for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs if necessary. What We Prefer: Experience with delineating wetlands for linear projects Knowledge of local flora and regional wetland regulations Experience in preparing wetland delineation reports, functional assessments, mitigation plans, and environmental compliance/permitting documents Qualified as a WSDOT Biological Assessment Author Understanding of the environmental permitting process and the ability to work with clients and regulatory agencies Excellent technical writing, organizational, and communication skills to effectively interact with staff and clients Use of mobile GPS and GIS technologies Must be able to work independently with appropriate level of supervision Must have and maintain a valid driver license and insurable driving record Additional Information Click here for benefits information: HNTB Total Rewards Click here to learn more about EOE including disability and vet #BH . . . The approximate pay range for Washington is $77,044.74 - $138,581.76. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
