HNTB Corporation is Hiring a Construction Office Engineer (Non-Engineering Degrees) Near Bellevue, WA

What We're Looking For We are currently seeking Office Engineers in our Seattle, Washington office to continue to grow our Pacific Northwest Construction Services practice. We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, self-starters with at least 4 years’ construction management experience on public works projects. Preferred experience includes change management and estimating. Experience working with the City of Seattle, Sound Transit, and/or other local agencies is highly desirable. Primary Focus Will Include: Manages tracking of submittals, RFIs, PCOs, and other deliverables Maintains as-built record drawings, project files, and records database including specifications, test results, reports, and inspector's daily reports Reviews monthly contractor schedules and pay estimates Assesses impacts of design, construction, and schedule changes and assist in negotiation of cost proposals with contractors Provides proactive communication and coordination with resident engineering team, client, and contractor, including attending meetings and providing reports Conducts regular quality assurance audits of project databases and electronic files Ensures compliance federal, state, and local construction administration policies related to construction management documentation Provides training to project team Supports project closeout activities Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Experience on federally funded projects Experience on Design-Build projects Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Adobe, Bluebeam, and P6 Familiarity with engineering, architectural, and construction documents Experience with preparation of cost estimates Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors. Ability to anticipate problems and proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems Demonstrated ability to set and meet deadlines while juggling multiple assignments What You'll Need Essential Responsibilities: Performs office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares documentation for change orders, reviews change order scope of work, schedule and cost, processes and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables. Assists in constructability reviews. Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents. Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for the tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents. Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. Responsible for maintaining as-constructed drawings and monitors contractors progress to analyze against progress schedule. Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record. Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks. Mentors and trains staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in relevant field and 6 years relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years relevant experience. Competencies: Identifies and resolves issues with basic change conditions with oversight from the project engineer. Develops working relationships with agency staff and stakeholders. Operates relevant testing equipment as needed for the project. Understands Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills at an advanced level. Understands document control for the project (i.e., materials documentation of RFI, contractor payment, contractor employment records) at an advanced level with oversight from more experienced staff. Ensures accountability by holding oneself and others accountable to meet commitments. Takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm; independently. Communicates effectively by developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the project needs to external partners (i.e.: clients, consultants, and contractors). Shows courage by stepping up to address difficult issues and saying what needs to be said. Cultivates innovation by creating new and better ways for the project to be successful and tapping resources. Uses resourcefulness by securing and deploying project resources effectively and efficiently. Drives results by consistently accomplishing tasks independently, even under tough circumstances. Effectively executes delegated work. Instills trust by gaining the confidence of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
