HIMSS is Hiring a Remote Senior Technical Program Manager

The purpose of this position is to provide technical oversight and guidance for HIMSS interoperability and health IT standards programs and initiatives, including the Cooperative Agreement Program between Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), Global Consortium for eHealth Interoperability, and the Immunization Integration Program. HIMSS interoperability initiatives advance and accelerate consistent, high-quality standards adoption and implementation. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of experience developing, implementing, and testing health IT standards, implementation guides, and integration profiles. This position provides an opportunity to interface with leading health IT market suppliers, system developers, policymakers, and health agencies in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Pacific Rim. HIMSS is looking for a mission-driven, self-motivated, and curious individual who is ready to modernize and transform healthcare via the thoughtful application of health information and technology.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for health IT standards programs including both internal and external communications. Participate in progress meetings, serving as the staff liaison to the health IT standards programs, providing timely updates such as:
    • IHE USA / IHE International
    • HIMSS Global Consortium for eHealth Interoperability
    • HIMSS Immunization Integration Program
  • Plan, facilitate and execute health IT standards activities, projects, and communications, leveraging strong customer service and program management skills. Core activities include:
    • IHE
      • Annual IHE North American Connectathon
      • IHE USA Path to Production Digital Series
    • HIMSS
      • Immunization Integration Program with CDC
      • Interoperability Measurement Project with ONC
      • HIMSS Interoperability Showcase
      • HIMSS Interoperability Survey
      • HIMSS Interoperability and IHE Community
  • Support meetings, virtual and in-person, including preparing agendas and meeting facilitation, process documentation, capturing and distributing meeting materials and minutes.
  • Establish and manage shared virtual work environments for posting documents and deliverables.
  • Support HIMSS Global efforts to manage a multi-stakeholder environment for educational outreach, standards development, and modification.
  • Support real world testing of health IT through IHE Connectathons, HL7 Connectathons, FHIR® developer days and other HIMSS and industry related interoperability activities.
  • Stay abreast on internal and external industry trends to anticipate and recommend new opportunities or solutions.
  • Develop reports and coordinate feedback to key stakeholders on challenges and lessons learned through the IHE USA profile development and testing process.
  • Ensure updated profiles and extensions are available for public use by shepherding the profiles through the formal process to develop, update and incorporate them into the appropriate domain IHE Technical Framework.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare management or related field; advanced degree in Informatics, Data Science, or related field preferred
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in health IT standards and standards development; understanding of IHE and HL7 FHIR preferred; the ideal candidate will have some combination of experience developing, implementing, and testing health IT standards, implementation guides, and integration profiles
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in project management in healthcare; experience working with volunteer groups and/or collaborative environments preferred.
  • Program or project management certification is ideal but not required.
  • Highly proficient with IT/communication applications including Outlook (mail and cross-time-zone scheduling), the Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, web-based survey tools, and web-based collaboration tools.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Atlassian tools (Confluence/Jira) and Salesforce is preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical and abstract thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement projects using effective project management and communication skills, in preparing content/layout for websites and ongoing communication vehicles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including comfort and demonstrated success in public speaking with various stakeholder groups, including but not limited to federal agencies, and strategic partners
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate key points across multiple different audience groups and adjust talking points for audiences.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in team-based situations with co-workers, volunteers, industry subject matter experts, and other organizations. Ability to work effectively with team members across HIMSS geographic locations.
